All my computer files are gone?

Is this what they mean when someone refers to "my computer crashed?"

I know that it could mean different things to different people. My computer kept on giving me a notice that said I did not have space on file "C". I tried fixing it but the remedy did not work for too long. On Tuesday morning when I logged on my computer all the files were gone. I can still log on to the internet and open programs. All my pictures, music files, document files etc...are gone. Many programs are still there and some I had to re-run like Itunes.  There is no music in Itunes, though, as if I have just installed it. I checked my recycle bin and it is empty. What puzzles me is that I'm still getting the I have no space on my hard drive. If my files are gone, wouldn't I have more space now? I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out if my files are still somewhere in there. I use Windows XP. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: All my computer files are gone?

Have you tried using the search feature?

I mean... you can search for all jpeg files by searching *.jpg

or mp3s with *.mp3

the asterisk basically means 'anyFileName' and the.jpg or .mp3 will narrow it down to mp3s or jpegs... you can do that with any suffix like .bmp, .mpg, .mpeg, .gif, etc etc...

and did you try to do a restore (I think it gives you a 2 day roll back ability) but I don't like using that for some reason.... that's just me though...

You tried "fixing it".  Did  you do  a system restore?   If not, that might possibly help get your files back.  Did you check to see how much space is on your computer hard drive?

Could it be that you are now somehow logged into XP as a new user?

Re: All my computer files are gone?

Thank you all for the suggestions.  I haven't been able to fix it. I checked the recycle bin...nothing. I tried to restore, I don't think I did it right. I'm logged on as myself. And I tried searching for files by name and nothing. No where , zip, zilch, nada. I have no memory. I deleted some programs and now I have 953 MB of memory on my C drive. I had bought a back up driver with tons of memory on it and was able to transfer my pictures before this happened. I just wish I could find the files that are taking up so much space so that I could clear up my C drive. I'm so tired of this and so busy.
