I've never really thought to bring this up to anyone,  but my wife and I have had some looks and snickers over it.  So here goes.  Does anyone think that the Burger King character in their commercials is.. well... creepy in a.. well.... icky kind of way?

Remember the SNL cartoon with Ace and Gary and they wore tights and did weird things?  That's kind of what that creepy King reminds me of.  Whoever came up with that ad campaign had to have been on hallucinogens.

It sure as hell never made ME hungry.

Re: Burger King

OMG!!I noticed that after those "king" commercials came out that I stopped eating at burger king. I think the creepiest commercials are the ones when the person opened the shade to a window and the king was standing right outside the window. Or the other one where the dude wakes up and finds the king next to him in the bed looking at him. Yeah I think, I won't venturing out to burger king for awhile. However, I do like the new commercials they have with the guys dressed as whoppers. They try to go into a McDonald's and some guys are stopping them and they say "what are you Ronald's body guards?"

Re: Burger King

I like that he's creepy. I kinda thought that was the point, in an underhanded sort of way...

The first commercial I remember him in was the "Big Rock Candy Mountain" song, except it was "Chicken Tendercrisp something or other" And the guy from Hootie and the Blowfish was singing it. I think the King was pushing Brooke Burke on a swing. Bizzare stuff.

Found it:

Re: Burger King

Lol.  I love the King!!  My ex and I used to crack up every time a BK commercial was on.  Once we were driving upstate and were stopped at a red light.  There was a Burger King across the street and a guy dressed as the King was standing out front dancing and running around after people.  We couldn't stop laughing.  The King is great.  Although I agree he shouldn't be breaking into people's houses.  Even if it is to feed them.

I think he only wants us to think he wants to feed us.  It's a front.  He's sick and Chris Hanson is going to catch him someday and make him sit at that bar.

Hahahaha. I don't think hes that bad... Maybe a little off, but I don't think he is going to kill me in my sleep or anything. So long as he makes decent food, I'm happy.

Burger King

When I was a kid there was only one Burger King within 40 miles of our house (it was in El Monte, the armpit of the world).. we would go there a few times a year, usually when passing-by on our way somewhere else (like if we were going to Baldwin Park, the A-hole of the world)

In front of that Burger King was a plastic statue of "The King" sitting in a throne.. from what i can remember (this was over 35 years ago) the character in the new TV commercials is exact same as that throned-King - I can remember, way back then, being scared to death of that thing because even then, it was freaky.

Re: Burger King

The one in my town had something similar, only he was sitting on a bench inside, so you could sit next to him.  Photo op?  I dunno, they remodeled years and years ago, it's been gone a while.

Re: Burger King

The Spot: It's morning. Birds are chirping. A man wakes up in his bed … and discovers he's not alone! Next to him on the mattress there is some sort of royal personage: a king, clad in burgundy robes and a crown. But the king's head appears to be made of plastic and is perhaps three times too large for his body. He hands the stunned man a breakfast sandwich. They laugh together.

That is creepy, and NOT because it may or may not have a gay theme... just creepy that someone wakes up in your bed that you did not invite there.

Here is the article that excerpt is from which explains Burger King's ideas behind the campaign:    http://www.slate.com/id/2107697/

Re: Burger King

I love the commercial where he comes home to his family and the son is mini version of him. Now that is creepy. Or where the King was sitting on people's beds. My first reaction would be to punch and ask questions later. I mean breaking and entering is a crime even if you have breakfast food with you.

Re: Burger King

That's one of the ones that got me.  The dude wakes up and there's this twit wearing a costume holding an eggmcmuffin sitting on the bed leering at him when he wakes up.  He looks like he has more than breakfast on his mind.  Maybe it's the look on his face.

Re: Burger King

I can't say I've ever seen the Burger King as gay Stevie but it is kinda creepy...in a funny way.

They have a video game out where you play as the King and you have to stealthily creep up on unsuspecting folks to offer them food! It makes me laugh every time Laughing

That being said fast food is horrible for you and I never eat it
