For Christmas, I received a 22" Widescreen LCD monitor.  Sweet!  Thanks to Stevie's wonderful thread, I was able to set it up, and found a display setting I was happy with, 1280x800.  Things were fine, until this morning.

Last night, I ran some maintenance.  I compressed files, and then ran my defrag.  Overnight, AVG updated, and I had to reboot.  After i finished rebooting, my desktop background was...off.  Huge.  I checked my monitor settings, and it's now set to 1024x768.  Why did it change?  Not only that, 1280x800 ISN'T IN THE SLIDER ANYMORE.  It's just not there.  I've got 1280x1024, but not x800.

What the heck did I do?

Re: Display settings changed after reboot, preferred ...

You must reinstall the video card driver so that you can configure it to the way tat you want it.

Display settings changed after reboot

Windows XP ?
Check to make sure that the correct Monitor driver/INF file is still there, and selected. I could see how this would happen if the INF file was removed - the question is, HOW/WHY would it get removed or changed? When you set everything back (preferences and monitor driver/INF file) and reboot, does it stick now?

If that's not the issue, i'll shuddup and let someone smarter answer.

How do I find said driver/INF file?

If I had to place a guess, maybe it happened when I compressed my files last night and didn't show up until I rebooted this morning?

Thank you so much!  Eeks, this is horrible to look at.

Since our house is "windows free", I cant give you the exact clicks.. But in your control panel/video settings there should be a button for the 'monitor'.. and in there a 'change' button (or something..) you can hit that and browse to find your monitor on the list OR the monitor probably came with a driver/INI disk with full instructions (didnt it??)

Re: Display settings changed after reboot

I couldn't find exactly what you meant, but I did go into my driver list, and there was a bright yellow thingy next to my video card.  So, I updated the driver, and things are back to normal.  How the driver went weird in the first place, I'm still not too sure.  The only thing out of the ordinary I did recently was that file compression thing last night.  As for the disk, I never needed it when I set the monitor up, both the monitor and the PC are Dell, so it was basically plug and play.  Very strange.  Anyway, thanks again, things look the way they should, now.

Re: Display settings changed after reboot

I think something must have happened after you have installed the compressor on your computer. Some of the .dll of the drivers is been affected after the installation . But most of the times it's being caused by a virus that was installed together with the new program. So you must always scan any thing that you are going to install in your computer. Also it looks to me that you didn't install any antivirus on the computer yet. Is there a antivirus already installed in your computer?
