Friends and I are having a debate here. When I misspell something on Facebook, it picks it up and I'm able to find the spelling. One friend insists that I amusing Google Chrome and I'm not. Another says Facebook does not have spell check at all. So where does the spell check come from that Facebook uses?

Thanks to anyone that can help settle this.

You can highlight text in Firefox and then right click on it. This will open a menu which has a languages option. Selecting "languages" ask you which version of English you use. Select the one you use, This is strictly a workaround.

Re: Facebook's spellcheck
i just type my comments on pics from pages i like or when i send a messge to someone that is long and there older then me (as you could prob already tell from the first 23 words i typed spelling an grammer aint my stron suits) an the older person may not no acronyms and obriveastion (or when i comment on one of my one or 2 "grammer nazis" who have to correct every typo and mistake i type it all out on microsoft word which has spell check then when im done the whole comment/messag/reply i typed onto microword has red line under the whole paragraph so i fix it then copy and paste it to where ever i was intending to type on facebook..i also use it for my blog beacuse its about recovery for people who need narctotics to live but need there life back and the mentally ill that na an aa turn off when they say god will fix everything, so its serious and people are following my new type of recovery and mental health support group and they wouldnt take me serious if they new i cant spell(though most know i had a tramatic brain injury) but forppl reading for the first time it will turn them off, i no im off topic but simply type your message in mic word spell check an correct then copy and paste. thats what i dotill FaceBook comes up with the app cause i use internet explore

Re: Facebook's spellcheck
Under Windoze in Firefox the spell checker does indeed work when using Facebook. However, I just installed Ubuntu and in Firefox the spell checker appears to be inoperative when using Facebook, even when 'Check my spelling as I type' is check-marked under Firefox 'Advanced' preferences. Any ideas?

Re: Facebook's spellcheck
One would think after 7 1/2 years+ that Facebook would have developed it's own built in "Spell Checker" for the illiterate people! I mean seriously, WTF? Facebook Developers??? You're very slow in developing serious needed components for this community! Marie

Re: Facebook's spellcheck

Spell checker is a function of the web browser.

In Firefox, look under Firefox 'Options', 'Advanced', 'Browsing'. To enable spell checker make a check mark in the box next to 'Check my spelling as I type'.

If you have recently run a PC cleaner program such as Advanced Systems Care 6 it may have reset your spell checker to not be a automatic function.

Re: Facebook's spellcheck
Internet Explorer 10 has a built-in spellcheck but you have to have Windows 8 to use it.

My Mom has a Dell Laptop. Her spell checker does not work on her e-mail, the cable company I believe is the blame there. Then on Yahoo it does not work, or on facebook. She uses Internet Explorer. How can I tell if she uses Firefox? If so how do I turn on the spell checker? Does yahoo have a spell checker,? doesn't work . HELP>>> Kathleen

Re: Facebook's spellcheck

Internet Explorer does not have a built-in spell checker - Assuming she is using Internet Explorer for her email, this would explain why the spell-check does not work. Also explains Yahoo and Facebook Spellcheck not working.

You can tell if she's using Firefox by asking her: 1) "did you install Firefox?" or 2) "does the icon you click for interwebs look like a big blue 'e', or like a red/orange (fire color) fox wrapped around a globe?"

Re: Facebook's spellcheck
I am so glad I figured that it was FireFox...b/c I have been trying to figure out why it wasn't working anymore on FaceBook....I guess I must have messed up my setting or something. I did find an app on Facebook for spell check...but you have to go to that app, so it really isn't convenient.

Re: Facebook's spellcheck

Yeah, i dont think Facebook has it's own spellchecker.. Are you using Firefox (with a built-in spell checker) or the GoogleToolbar for Firefox or Internet explorer (with a built in spell checker) ?

I use Firefox. Looks like it's their spell checker. When I  click on properties, the firefox logo comes up.
