It's on!  Looks like we will be attending as well as having a mini gathering at our home during the hoiday season, in an effort to acquaint myself with some of husband of mine's east coast colleagues. So I'm digging deep searching for unique holiday related games. White Elephant Exchange is my all time favorite.

What are some of your game ideas? I'm needing them, stat!

Re: Favorite Holiday Gathering Games

There used to be this game I remember my parents playing around the holidays.  There's this big glass bowl and as people come in the door, the man dropped his car keys in.  I don't know how the rest of the game is played .. it was our bedtime.  I'll call my mom to find out the rules and I'll get back to you.

I wish I could help you with this one.....I have no clue!! Ummmm how about cocktails and socializing?! lol. I really wish I knew of X-mas games but I don't, didn't really celebrate growing up. But I'm sure whatever you think of will be great! muahs!

Re: Favorite Holiday Gathering Games

here is one that sounds promising.

Dirty Dice Gift Grab:
Step1: Everyone brings a wrapped gift and it is placed in the middle of a room.

Step 2: Once everyone is seated two dice are passed to each person to roll (a larger group of people can pass two or three pairs of dice). Whoever shakes a double retrieves a prize but can't open the gift, and so on until all gifts are taken. Everyone who has a gift (some have none, some might have many) opens their gifts for everyone to see.

Step 3: Now it gets dirty! A timer is set for 15 minutes and the dice keep going around the room to each person and if someone shakes a double they can steal an unwrapped prize from anyone. 'Everytime' a double is rolled, a prize gets stolen.

Step 4: When the timer runs out, that is the end of the game. When we have very young children participating, the adults make sure each child is left with at least one prize.

Variation Everyone Gets a Gift

Step 2: Once everyone is seated, have guests start rolling the dice and when they get a pair they can pull a gift from the pile. The dice continue to be passed around to those who have not yet rolled a pair. Note: Those who already have a gift are skipped. When you get down to two people rolling dice the last person to roll a pair selects one gift and the other person gets the final present.

Step 3: Now everyone has fun opening their gift and seeing what they have.

Step 4: Now set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes and start the dice with the person who received the last gift. They roll the dice and if they roll a pair they can now trade gifts with anyone. However, if they roll a pair of 6’s then they can trade gifts with anyone and the gift they chose is theirs to keep! No one can steal it. After they roll the dice, they then pass it off to the next play (either to the right or left).

Continue playing the game until the buzzer goes off. Once the buzzer sounds, the last turn is finished and each person gets to keep their gift.

...nothing like a tacky relative ( you know that odd cousin) who brings USED but washed sexy outfits (too bad they were size 4X....gross).  We no longer do whilte elephant exchanges - I think the used sexy stuff put us over the edge.

Yeah... a large 2nd-hand teddie would probably do it for me too. Smile

Too funny. The only thing that went wrong with a white elephant I went to was peoples bad attitude. It was a church exchange and the limit was $5 there were people who obviously spent beyond that and then those same people (I would assume)complained about the presents they recieved and it seemed to really hurt peoples feelings.
