Foil in the Microwave.....

Ok, so yesterday during my lunch break I was heating up some baked chicken, when I took the chicken out and started eating it I noticed a little piece of foil on the bottom of the tupperware. I got a little freaked out but I remembered I had put the foil over the chicken when I had put it in the oven when I first cooked it. Then I thought, " Well isn't something bad supposed to happen if you put foil in the microwave??". Nothing happened, I dont know if it was because the foil was just a tiny piece or what. So, have any of you ever put foil or some type of silverware in the microwave on accident? Did anything happen liket sparks flying or turning your microwave black?? Is it really true something bad happens if you put foil/silverware in the microwave??? I've never tried it so I don't really know if it's true or just another myth.......

the problem with metal of any sort (whether aluminum foil or silverware) is that it can produce an arc of electricity inside the microwave. this is a problem because it can cause a fire if in a  plastic or paper cooking container/box.  so the aluminum is not heating and causing a fire, but the arc can do some major damage.

OMG :-O Weird nothing sparked, at least that I didn't notice, does the foil in a microwave contaminate food when heated together??

Hahaha!  I've seen an all out laser light show in a microwave.  You know those paper party plates that look like they've got glitter on them?  Yeah, they do weird, pretty things in the microwave.  We had the "60" version of the plates in the link back in March for Dad's birthday.  My sister made the mistake of reheating some baked ziti.  Ooops!

Last weekend or so, Boyfriend and I were at my parent's place, and Dad had Food Network on.  There was a show called "Food Detectives", and the guy was covering things you should never, ever put in a microwave.  Who knew, white grapes are on the list?  They flare up like kindling!  Peeps, those marshmallow bunnies coated in colored sugar, go crazy, too.

Boyfriend and I have to replace our microwave soon.  It's dying a slow death.  Once we get a new one, I plan on bringing the old one outside, and putting "bad" things in it until it explodes or something.  Don't worry, I'll videotape it.

Thats funny! Who would put marshmellows in the microwave though?! lol. Yes please do videotape it, I'm tempted to try putting weird things in it but I don't want to burn down my house! lol, maybe I'll go to the Goodwill or Savers and buy an old used microwave and experiment with it!! hehe :-p

Honestly, most of the stuff he did on the show, I'd have never thought to microwave.  Like grapes.  I can't think of a single good reason to microwave a bunch of grapes, other than the spectacular light show....

You forgot carrots... carrots have a lot of minerals in them that can spark and flare up... but I think this only refers to regular carrots...

And I've put marshmallows in the microwave :) .... I wanted to melt tem for my peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich when I was little... those things GROW like crazy

That's actually a valid reason (in theory, anyway) to nuke a marshmallow, lol.  Carrots....yeah, I got nothing.
