My son logged into his iTunes account with his grandmothers iphone so he could download a song for her ... after that his facetime mesages would go to her phone as well as his. I removed his email address from her phone and it stopped for a while but now her phone number is listed in his imessage and facetime 'send&recieve/you can be reached by imessage at:' .. how do i DELETE her number from this location. It is also listed under 'you can reached by FaceTime at:'

I had him log off both imessage and facetime but as soon as he logged back in the number reappeared.

I want to be sure her phone is no longer associated with my son's iTunes, iMessage, or FaceTime account. Once and for all please.

To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone. Sign out in the following locations:

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages.

If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.

This works. I just did it. My daughter tried to use grandmother's phone and link her phone to my itunes account so I removed her number by doing the steps above.

in Settings | iCloud, make sure the right account is showing. If it is not showing the correct account, scroll to the bottom and tap "delete account".

In Settings | Messages |Send & Receive, look at/tap "Apple ID" - if the wrong one is showing tap it, and select "sign Out"

In Settings | Messages | Send & Receive, look at all of the phone numbers and accounts - for any that do not belong, tap the blue arrow on the right, and select "remove"

DO THIS ON ALL DEVICES (hers, his)..

If that doesn't work, something evil is happening, or a step is being missed..

the icloud settings are fine. the imessage apple id is correct. the imessage shows the number we want to delete as well as the correct email. however there is not a blue arrow to the right ... he has a 4th gen ipod touch ... I haven't checked her phone yet.

What happens when you UNcheck the checkmark, next to the number?

it deactivates the number so it is not used as 'can be reached at' for imessage or factime. But I want to remove it completely. Why does apple make it so difficult? Seriously? I have searched online for days and can't find anyone who knows how to remove it. If we restore the ipod and we don't back it up first will it remove it then? I can always save the music and photos to my PC first without backing up through iTunes. Would that work?

I would argue that they don't "make it difficult", but instead, try to keep everything simple by not cluttering every screen with a hundred options and settings. Problem with that is that whenever someone does something the "non Apple" way, like for example to download songs from someone else's account, things can get ugly..

Anyway.. If you restore the iPod to a date before the setting was there, that should take care of this. But first, try this from one of Apple's Support pages:
