Is this a brand new Internet connection with a new ZyTel DSL modem and new
2Wire router - both supplied by your Internet service provider or did you go out
and purchase the 2Wire device yourself to add routing and wireless capabilities
to your existing ZyTel modem setup? Because I'm thinking that you don't
need both devices - have you called your Internet service provider?
See, the 2Wire device functions as a DSL modem/gateway/router. If you got
the 2Wire from your ISP as an equipment upgrade, they probably intended on you
replacing the ZyTel modem with it. You may only need the 2Wire device
(correctly set up with the ISP's settings and your username/password, of
Call them... it's worth a shot to not have the extra device. Before you call
your ISP (in your case, it's probably your phone company) you will need your
account username and password.
I'm not familiar with either the 2Wire 2701HG-B or the ZyXEL, but this is generally how it goes:
Plug the 2Wire into your ZyXEL with the ethernet cable
(temporarily) plug your PC into 2Wire with an ethernet cable
Follow the instructions that came with the 2Wire to connect into the configuration page with your web-browser, and configure it..
Disconnect the ethernet cable
Make sure the wireless adapter in your PC is active.. Open your wireless adapter software and you should see the network name that you setup on the 2Wire when you configured it listed as an available network- connect to it, enter the password you put in while configuring your 2Wire, and enjoy the wireless connectivity!
... obviously this is short on details - do you have/have you read the documentation that came with your 2Wire router?
