iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

My husband and I recently updated to ios6. Today when I texted him I received the exact same message back as if I had sent it to myself in addition to him. I'm not sure what we have done but it is quite annoying. Can you provide any input?

If I change my Apple ID on my iPhone to my husband Apple ID will text messages that people send him be sent to my phone as well? If so does that mean he will receive text messages that are being sent to me?

Re: iMessages

"text/SMS" messages are not affected by iCloud.
If you sign-in to your phone as your husband, than every iMessage you send well be as/from your husband. All iMessages sent to your husband's account or phone will also go to your phone, assuming everything is setup properly on your phone and on his.

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

You are sharing accounts, so this is exactly what is supposed to happen.
So - be sure you both have your own iCloud accounts
Then..
Check Settings|Messages, and make sure your phone and hers is logged-in with your respective account
Check Settings|Messages|Send & Receive to ensure that the proper accounts are in their respective "Send as" and "receive at" settings..
You want to ensure that her email/icloud info is not in your "receive at" list and visa-versa

You can still share the same iTunes account (in Store settings) for purchases, etc, and have different/individual iCloud accounts by changing the settings (above).

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages
I have the same ID for iCloud and iTunes and three family members share these two accounts. I am getting ready to assign each family member their own iCloud account. My concern is iTunes. Is there any downside/upside to having an iCloud and iTunes with the same login email/username and password?

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

Not a problem..
Just configure email, iMessage, etc with their iCloud account and in the iTunes/Store section, use the account you want to share iTunes purchases.

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages
oops. I have 2 iPhones, one apple id. Is it possable to have one phone not recieve texts that the primary phone recieves? Meaning if one has both phone numbers in the send & recieve box checked off, and the other phone only has its own number checked? Or should I ask: is there such a thing as a primary and secondary phone, with the primary being the king..??

If I have my icloud shut off, but share an apple id can the others who share the apple id see my imessages?

Re: avoiding sharing imessages

If all iCloud services are disabled, then anyone sharing your account would not get your iMessages from that device... You also will not be able to send or receive iMessages.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Yes.
You will want to check the account, "recieve at" and "send as" settings on all of your devices that use iMessage.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Sorry, I should have been more clear:
Settings|Messages
Tap Send & Receive
Under "you can be reached at" make sure only your accounts show/are checked
Under Start new conversations from: make sure your iCloud account or iphone phone number are checked, depending on what you prefer

Your friend will have to do the same on all of her devices.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Your friend has to make sure that under her "you can be reached at" none of your info is there, or she may still recieve your imessages.
My guess is that you did not get her messages because you didnt have the right settings. Why YOU did and SHE didnt, i dont know, too many varaiables in play that I can't see.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

I think that if you change your iCloud account password, that will cut her off.. havn't actually tried that, so let me know if that does the job so i can put that in my bag of tricks.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

You can change your AppleID (aka, iCloud ID) password at www.appleid.apple.com .. Once you change it, you will have to update all accounts and devices that have it stored with the new password.

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

It sounds like you have associated your iphone or email to his icloud account or his iPhone number.
So - be sure you both have your own iCloud accounts
Then..
Check Settings|Messages, and make sure your phone and his phone is logged-in with your respective account
Check Settings|Messages|Send & Receive to ensure that the proper phone numbers and email accounts are in their respective "Send as" and "receive at" settings..
You want to ensure that his phone number or his iCloud ID is not in your "receive at" list.
