iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

My husband and I recently updated to ios6. Today when I texted him I received the exact same message back as if I had sent it to myself in addition to him. I'm not sure what we have done but it is quite annoying. Can you provide any input?

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages

It sounds like you have associated your iphone or email to his icloud account or his iPhone number.
So - be sure you both have your own iCloud accounts
Then..
Check Settings|Messages, and make sure your phone and his phone is logged-in with your respective account
Check Settings|Messages|Send & Receive to ensure that the proper phone numbers and email accounts are in their respective "Send as" and "receive at" settings..
You want to ensure that his phone number or his iCloud ID is not in your "receive at" list.

duplicate iMessages on iPad and iPhone in iOS6
I have a similar issue...my imessages are going to my ipad and my friends ipad (we share the same apple id) but she now gets my imessages but I do not get her messages? I DO NOT LIKE THIS! What can I do so that my imessages sent and receive will not go to her ipad as well. HELP!

Re: iOS6 getting copy of my iMessages on iPad

You are sharing accounts, so this is exactly what is supposed to happen.
So - be sure you both have your own iCloud accounts
Then..
Check Settings|Messages, and make sure your ipad and her iPad is logged-in with your respective account
Check Settings|Messages|Send & Receive to ensure that the proper accounts are in their respective "Send as" and "receive at" settings..
You want to ensure that her email/icloud info is not in your "receive at" list and visa-versa

You can still share the same iTunes account (in Store settings) for purchases, etc, and have different/individual iCloud accounts by changing the settings (above).

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Yes.
You will want to check the account, "recieve at" and "send as" settings on all of your devices that use iMessage.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

i dont see the "recieve at" and "send as" settings on my iphone(4) all i see is settings -> iMessage (on/off) button
below if the imessage is "on" below is what is See:

Send Read receipts (on/off) button

send as SMS (on/off) button

Send & Receive (my email add. shows)

and if imessage is "off"
this is what i see
SMS/MMS
MMS Messaging (on/off) button
Show Subject field(on/off) button
Character Count (on/off) button

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Sorry, I should have been more clear:
Settings|Messages
Tap Send & Receive
Under "you can be reached at" make sure only your accounts show/are checked
Under Start new conversations from: make sure your iCloud account or iphone phone number are checked, depending on what you prefer

Your friend will have to do the same on all of her devices.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad
thank you... will my friend still get my imessages on her ipad after i do this? i put a check mark to send and receive messages on my phone number. i unchecked the email add. One more question, how come i did not get any of her messages?
hubby
Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

Your friend has to make sure that under her "you can be reached at" none of your info is there, or she may still recieve your imessages.
My guess is that you did not get her messages because you didnt have the right settings. Why YOU did and SHE didnt, i dont know, too many varaiables in play that I can't see.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad
What if for some reason she doesnt change her settings on her ipad. Is there other way I can do to prevent her from seeing my imesssages sent and received on her ipad?

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

I think that if you change your iCloud account password, that will cut her off.. havn't actually tried that, so let me know if that does the job so i can put that in my bag of tricks.

Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad
Thank you sooo much for all your help. I appreciate you. Sorry for all the questions. How do I change my iCloud account password? can I change it from my phone? or do I need to go on itunes??? Do I need to change this on all my devices (ipad, iphone)?
hubby
Re: iOS6 getting duplicate iMessages on iPad

You can change your AppleID (aka, iCloud ID) password at www.appleid.apple.com .. Once you change it, you will have to update all accounts and devices that have it stored with the new password.
