Ummm. The whole idea behind formspring.me is so that users can ask questions anonymously right??? Gosh people even want to know IP's on sites where you already KNOW its reason is for anonymity?

Defeats the entire purpose to me. If you want to know who posts why sign up?

Yeah well so often ignorant people post comments or questions that are ridiculous...people seem to get real brave when they're anonymous. I bet they wouldn't be so brave if they're comments could be traced back to them!

Yes the whole idea is so questions (which have turned into horrible, rude, and disrespectful comments) can be posted anonymously. If people are getting these comments, i vote they just delete their account. That way, if they bother you that much, you will receive no more. The site has guaranteed further anonymous question asking however. They state that you will not be able to reveal who posts these things. I'm a kid myself, I can handle being called mean names and such but in the safety of your child's feelings, just delete the account.

I would be interested if this site could be supeonaed to reveal users under the new "cyberbullying" law. My daughter is being harassed by schoolmates, and they would be expelled if their identity would be revealed. Does anyone know about this type of situation?

I'm curious and baffled by one other choice all parents can take, but I'd like to know why it was not considered. Why don't you tell your child to end the account they're using, therefore no longer having to see these cyberbully messages everytime? I honestly don't see a problem with a child/parent changing the account by closing the trouble account permanently and opening a new one (or keeping the old account and changing password from child's knowledge, for future evidence, etc)... but just don't allow the child from accessing the messages any longer. Will the parent take over and do this for the sake of their child or not?

But that's so boring to simply close your daughter's account! Its much more fun and "EFFECTIVE" to set up an anonymous account as a parent (pretending your not a parent, but perhaps a boy from school, or someone else) and scare the crap out of these brats. In addition to scaring them, its also easy to find evidence to give to school administrators on accounts some as formspring.

And you know what? You can also find out whose "going out" or "having sex" with each other, and bring this to the attention of their parents. Good stuff.

That's the way to go! Take matters into your own hands..:)

You are a parent. She is the child. I do not agree in any way with "cyberbullying," however, if your daughter is under 18, then it is up to you to control her Internet usage. Things said (as you now know) can have terrible effects (how many beatings and suicides have come from social networking sites).

I am not saying that you are a bad parent at all, but there is no way that my parents would have allowed me to utilize such a site. A personal site that allows anonymous comments? For a teen? Come on now, you cannot expect kids (especially kids these days) to not be hurtful.

I would explain to your daughter the uselessness of such a thing.

It is not on the school (in my opinion)... that (what she is enduring) falls on you as a parent for allowing her to use such a site.

Re: Is there any type of tracker for formspring.me?

Yes, I agree totally. I did not know about the site, until she came to me with the offensive messages. The sender(s) - it's probably one person due to the similarity and content of the messages, is a classmate. My daughter is no longer permitted to be on this site and I already know the identity of the person.

The issue I am having is that she has been bullied by one particular girl at school who has made it her hobby to make my daughter's life miserable. One month ago my daughter loved school, now she is nearly suicidal..... NO ONE will talk to her on this one girl's orders. Yes, it sounds stupid, but the effect on my daughter is devastating. Her grades have dropped and she is missing school. The posts keep telling her to switch schools. Yes, we could do that, but what message would that send to this girl?

The subpoena will only give us the proof we need to finally end this....as the school needs proof to expel her. It's not really about Formspring.me, as much as it is about the fact that she committed a crime and as a result, can FINALLY be stopped.

I was only asking because having the cyberbullying proof will allow the school to finally expel this bully and the tormenting at school will stop. I will just seek help through an attorney.... As Formspring.me"s terms and conditions clearly state that the identity of the senders will only be revealed by subpoena for criminal acts, and this is a criminal act. It also states that the type of hate male she is receiving is against their policy. I know it can be done legally, I was just asking if anyone subpoenaed them yet, and how they went about doing so.

So thanks for the well-meaning parenting advice.... but I'm already on that. Now I'm looking for advise on how to serve them. Thanks.

uhm i feel bad for your daughter and all but she had the choice to either step up the bully and say something about what she DIDNT LIKE the SECOND it happend and she also had the choice to not even POST the question yet alone LOOK at it. so in the bullys defense its YOU and YOUR DAUGHTERS PROBLEM...
