What kind of frog is this? My mom found a frog, she wants to give it to my cousin's daughter (she's seven years old and loves frogs, this will be her first one) it's cute...But we have no idea what kind of frog it is...we looked online but none of the pictures looks the same. There is a frog simliar to this one but it has yellow lines...the frog we have is green and black. I took some pictures of this frog, in case you can't view them: http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt339... http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt339... I'm at my parents house in Peru IL, I need to take care of this frog for my cousin's daughter for the three days until I get back to chicago. So I need to know how to at least keep it alive until the little girl gets it LMAO! So these are the additional questions: What does it eat? How can I tell what gender it is? Is it safe for a child? How to care for it? Okay here is a Video of it...I decided since a lot of people still cant figure it out with the pictures I posted...maybe it will be much easier if i put a video of it moving and close ups. here's the video:

in case you can't view it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4l4vXqQ-... some people has told me that it's a leopard frog, some say it's a toad...I have no idea what it is...I gave it worms for right now because I know it hasn't ate anything since we caught it today...if it doesnt eat we'll just let it go...we dont want it to die... I'm not sure if it ate the worms...because right now it's just trying to get out of the bucket. (If it's safe for my cousin's daughter then we're going to buy a nice big tank for it...it depends on if we're going to keep it or not) like I said...we dont want the poor thing to die or suffer...

mod edit:Please post link to youtube video again- the link you have here is broken Smile

Re: What type of frog is this?

Is it legal to sell frogs and/or tadpoles that breed in my pond? If so how much?

Re: What type of frog is this?

I have a frog, i didn't buy it but it had been raised in my backyard pool as it is to much work to clean and i love to see the tadpoles swimming and ive been keeping a watchful eye on this one and he still has abit of the tail but he has been out of water and refuses to go back in so ha i left him but he loves to be handled but i cant find his species. I assume they are native because the are breeding like crazy in my backyard and he is the only that has almost fully transformed but he is no more then 5 cm mossy green/yellow back creamy bellie and his toes are yellow almost see though blackish eyes, and i still dont know if he is muture of not, he has a sack under his mouth possibly for croking and yes i think hes a tree frog but if i can get a good sence of what he is i can raise the tadpoles in my backyard healthier. Oh and another thing i am a froggie lover but im new to it so im very young to and i just dont want to hurt them at all so any tips are good, and we dont have a dog or cat but we have pigions flying everywhere are they a threat?? um i dont know what to feed him but i'll relese him in my pool a little later ^_^ ive named him Sneeky cause he can tr to hop away in my house when im not looking trust me hes a handfull lol but plez help me i want the best for him (and i love the noise they make last time i heard the muture ones to come in to mate was a round last year but i still get new tadpoles every day and they are tiny!!! but i never hear them from then on)

Re: What type of frog is this?

That is a Fowler's Toad, not a frog, and they do NOT make good pets.  Wild toads do not adapt well to living in captivity.

I would recommend returning it to where you found it, or at least to a safe wooded area near a clean water source.

Re: What type of frog is this?
I caught a frog and it is green with a gold-ish brown on it. It has a black line down it's back and from his eye to his front legs. He has suction cups on his feet, so he is a treefrog... The closest i have found to him is a Green and Gold Bell Frog, Although... they are endangered. So, i don't know if it actually is that.

Re: What type of frog is this?

I have a frog/toad that looks somewhat what this one looks like. Only he is much smaller and does not have black lines on his legs but black spots. he loves being carried around and rubbed between his eyes. I can't release him though because he hurt his hind leg and my aunt who is a vet said to help him and his leg mend. I need to find out what breed he is, if he is the same as the one in the pictures above, and what he needs to eat.

Re: What type of frog is this?

Hi there!

I believe you have a toad, not a frog.  Frogs are smooth skinned and toads have bumpy skin.  I googled "toads in IL" and this might be what you have:  http://dnr.state.il.us/education/CLASSRM/aquatic/MEDIA/fowlers.html.  The other toad choice is the American toad but it seems like your toad has less spots.  Sometimes there are slight variations in color.

LOL I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one out there catching and playing with toads LOL!  I have never kept a toad; just played with them in the yard and let them go.  Good luck with it!
