2009 Grammy Awards

2009 Grammy Awards, on now! Anyone else watching?

What a treat to see U2 open w/one of their new songs "Get On Your Boots." Great performance by Bono and crew. Although I am not real sure about their new sound.

Whitney Houston? I haven't seen her perform or even on a stage since her movie w/Kevin Costner.

Al Green just performed "Let's Stay Together" with Justin Timberlake. *I drooled through the entire song*

Was great to see Jennifer Hudson pick up an award to kick the night off. Her acceptance of such made my eyes fill up.

Ah, and Chris Martin & Cold play performing. Looks like the Grammy producers finally gave some life to this annual show.

Anyone else watching?

I'm watching it right now :)

And I still highlighted the spoilers LOL  All of them already happened though :)

Okay it ended!

Radiohead.  I loved it.

U2 opening the show was great.  Jennifer Hudson is so gracious, I like that :)

I thought Katy Perry's arrival in her spaceship banana was great! :D She always has the banana theme going. She was channeling the Chiquita banana lady with her outfit and Coldplay were channeling The Beatles with theirs :)

I was so happy for Adele's win.

And ohmy, Paul and Dave performing *bops*

Four tops and Bo Diddley tributes were ace :)

Non-musical things I noticed:

Travis and Morgan Freeman who both presented (at different times), obviously both still recovering from different accidents. And M.I.A. is ready to POP! Today was her due date and she was on stage? I thought there was going be a Grammy baby :o

Missed it? Winners, Photos, other stuff right here.

Re: 2009 Grammy Awards

I wasnt over impressed. Katy Perry is adorable, but she sounded horrid. Im not a jennifer hudson fan. she kinda bores me. coldplay...well...theyre lame. every song sounds the same. I cant fathom why they keep winning stuff.

Travis Barker and Morgan Freeman looked good. Nice to hear Blink182 will be back. The chick from Sugarland sure can belt it out. I dont like country but shes pretty darn good. Speaking of country- Miley and Taylor? Weird combo, IMO. Allison Krause is more and more beautiful everytime I see her. She has aged amazingly.

On a side note, I cant wait to hear more gossip about Rihanna and Chris Brown. It appears he is wanted for Felony Battery and Domestic Violence against his girlfriend. They were both scheduled to perform tonight, and cancelled after last night's altercation. Last I heard, he was still wanted- as in, he had yet to run himself in.

 EDIT:

Quote:

[Updated 9:21 p.m.] R&B singer Chris Brown has been booked tonight on suspicion of making felony criminal threats in connection with an incident involving his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to Los Angeles Police Department sources familiar with the case.

More from the Los Angeles Times

Wow, that shiz is some drama.  I didn't notice until much later and her CoverGirl ad came on.  I'm just reading now that Justin Timberlake and Al Green were the replacements.

Re: 2009 Grammy Awards

The first part about U2 is a repost of a PM I sent to 2na.

"Ok, first thought is “Wow the sound in this theater is absolutely terrible" I also think The Edge made a slightly poor choice of guitars for this performance, he should have used one of his Les Pauls instead of a Telecaster or at least the more powerful Telecaster he used for vertigo. It was hard to hear Adam and Larry's grove, their volume just wasn't synced up well enough. It was even hard to hear Bono! Now that’s something I never thought possible. But even sounding their worst they’re still better then almost everyone else's best.

The high resolution LED screen they performed in front of was cool, don’t know if it was theirs though. Especially seeing as they want to do a 360 stage on the new tour, so a screen like that would just get in the way."

(Just a note I know they use LED screens all the time, this one seemed to have smaller, closer together LEDs then the ones they usually use though.)

As for the rest, The Bo Diddley tribute was great, could have used a little Clapton but you can't have it all.

By far the most disappointing part(for me at least) was the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss performance, I heard the name Robert Plant and I thought “hey! should be good“. Then my ears where subjected to the most boring, dead sounding song I have ever heard. And I like boring music, to even refer to this song as boring is an insult to boring music, yet I‘ll do so anyway for lack of a better term. I haven't heard the rest of the album, but if that was the single shining example of greatness from the album, the one that absolutely had to be performed at the Grammy’s, Then it truly makes me wonder why anything that boring would win album of the year. And it's even more of a musical slap in the face that Robert Plant is now vindicated for his "I don't need Led Zeppelin" attitude that caused him to cancel their reunion tour. Then again maybe it just sounded terrible live, I‘ll have to listen to the studio version.
