2012 Was Big for the Apple App Store

Image of apps in the Apple App StoreIn 2012 smartphones continued to sell rapidly throughout the world and as a result basically every piece of the industry absolutely exploded in 2012. Phones, accessories, apps, and everything else benefit from higher phone sales, but today Apple released some statistics that show just how successful the Apple App Store really was.

The Apple App Store served up 20 billion unique app downloads in 2012 which is an absolutely phenomenal number considering the lifetime total is only 40 billion now. Apple was also happy to report just how much money developers are making from these downloads; a combined $7 billion has been paid out. That is pretty impressive for apps that sell for so little money. Apple and the Apple App Store are clearly doing quite well, fortunately Google isn't far behind with Android.
