Adblock Plus Question

Good evening all! Please help! I have a question about Adblock Plus. I added it, then I added the list of tracking sites to be blocked, which I found by surfing GuG and using Hubby's list (that took me a while to figure out, the 'right click then copy and paste', but I did it!! Now for my question(s): 1) Do I want the "enables" boxes checked or unchecked, and what does having them checked mean? 2) Could someone explain "hits" to me? I'll give an example of what I'm looking at: "trackspace.net---box not checked---1 hit".
"profilesnitch.com---checked---32 hits". 3) Can I add an IP address to my filters and it be blocked? 4) Can I go to a Myspace page, copy and paste the URL to my filters and it be blocked?
Thank you for your time and help!! :)

Re: Adblock Plus Question

Ok i can explain everything to you other than your questions about checked boxes...you lost me on that one.

Hits are how many times that certain tracker has been BLOCKED by adblockplus (ABP)

Putting an IP into ABP will not do what I think you want it to do. ABP only blocks YOU from being tracked by certain tracking programs. It also blocks lots of annoying ads on websites.

Putting in someones MySpace page address will mean when u visit their page, you will see nothing. Im pretty sure thats not what you want. I think what you were hoping is that by putting someones myspace page in there, they would be blocked from seeing YOU. it works pretty much the opposite way.

ABP is not a tool to prevent anyone from seeing you. It prevents certain known scripts and advertisers from showing up when you view a page.

Re: Adblock Plus Question

Well, I entered a few IP addresses and URLs to see if any hits from ABP coincided with tracking times on my tracker. That way I could be more certain of who is stalking my page, since the IP addresses really only locate the ISP more than the person. By "checking the boxes", I meant 'do I want the boxes to be enabled or disabled. I get confused sometimes. So, when I visit a page or someone's Myspace profile and ABP registers a hit (like "profilesnitch.com" or mstracker.net", that means then that it's possible the profile I visited has a tracker?

Re: Adblock Plus Question

Entering an IP on AdBlock plus wont tell you-or do-anything at all, except make it so YOU dont see anything if you visit that IP. So if you ad the IP for comcast, for example, and then try to visit comcast, you would be greeted with a blank page. I think youre hoping ABP will do something it doesnt do. It cant help you identify visitors. Its not a tracking tool.

Yes, if ABP registers a new hit for "trackspace" when you visit SuzyQ's MySpace page, that means SuzyQ has trackspace tracker on her page.

1) Do I want the "enables" boxes checked or unchecked, and what does having them checked mean?

If you are using it properly (as AE said above by only blocking items - in this case images related to trackers - that you dont want your computer to view) then you want to make sure the boxes are  checked "ENABLED."  Disabling any of the boxes means that you will allow that item to be viewed by your computer thus allowing you to be tracked.
