Every day I get a call from someone that usually barely speaks English, and usually calling from a very loud office or room (probably a sweatshop) with people screaming and yelling in the background. They want to tell me about all the free money that I qualify for from the State of California and to get it, all I have to do is allow them to come to my home to do a free energy survey. I usually let them ramble on before I tell them I'm not interested, but they are very aggressive and don't give up. I pretty much allow them to talk and waste as much time as they want and they usually get frustrated and hang up.
Today the barely-english-speaking woman put me through to her supervisor who presented himself as Aaron Lancaster. The first thing I asked was to be removed from their calling list, to which he responded he was not required to, and could not do. I was a bit surprised and asked him to confirm this, and again he said "we do not have to remove you from our list or stop calling you" .. I googled it and he may be right. It seems that American Pro Energy may be operating under the radar of the Do Not Call list and may not qualify as the type of business that has to abide by the Do Not Call list. Great going lawmakers!
Anyway, unless there is something good on TV I just allow them to go on and on, and spend as much time talking as they wish. I don't really pay attention but whenever they get to the point of setting up my free energy survey or consultation I just tell them no thank-you.
I agree. My caller ID showed the caller as Reidl Aurie (a name I cannot find on Google, so I figure I might at well post it) but the name used by the person on the other end of the phone was completely different. The phone number was in my area code - 707-271-XXXX. When I Google that number, the results that say it's in Fairfield or Point Arena, one of them showing a private party, but none showing a business. (I could call the number and confirm that it's not a business number, but why? Also, I don't want to bother someone unconnected with them, and so I'm also not posting the entire number).
It's a scam. Why would any legit business keep calling you if you ask them politely not to. It's kind of funny that their story changes a little bit each time. One time the call is solar, another it's about SoCalEd rebates I may qualify for (but I don't live in a SoCalEd service area) other times it's a survey on home energy use. To be rude to some they called (auto diaper because they aren't connected until you say hello--pick up the phone and listen for the background noise. Auto diaper switches have a unique din of silence.). They are a scam. Don't bother with the BBB, they are impenitent. Contact the state business license, consumer affairs and the FCC. Maybe it's time for a tv news report?
Yes, we should not let this continue!
They call me multiple times a month from different numbers on my mobile, even though I am on a "do not call list". One such number is 818-806-7312. When I asked the rep this time for the company's phone number, she refused. When I asked to speak with a supervisor she was rude and hung up.
