Any Ebayers up in here???

I didn't see a thread for ebay selling/buying, so I thought I'd start one. I hope that's ok.  I hated my 9-5 job at a PR firm in NYC so i started selling more on Ebay. It's been about 6 months since I started and I made a net profit last week of nearly $600! not too shabby.

what i like to do is sell designer used and new clothes that friends/colleagues don't want anymore (at a 50/50 consignment split). I also go to places like ross, tjmaxx, marshalls, burlington coat factory, etc and buy designer bags, sunglasses, clothes, etc on sale and sell them at a %100-%500 profit on ebay. it's fantastic!

my ebay user ID is parkslopecouture.

i sell everything from michael kors, juicy couture, ralph lauren, cole haan, and lots more.

is anyone else an active ebayer? i thought GuG would be a good place to share tips and gain exposure.

hope this was ok to post!:)

i do periodically and am always delighted with the outcome. i have a 10-year old slave to fashion and she is on a perpetual growing spurt. so i list her hot items such as A&F, Juicy, Hollister, Lauren, True Religion, etc. and thus far all resell at nearly store costs. i can't believe what moms will buy used at near new prices. but hey....someone has to do it!

I have paid for every video game system (PS2, Wii and two Nintendo DS's)my kids have by selling the systems when they first come out on Ebay. Thanks to the wonderfull people who cannot wait for these systems and are willing to pay top dollar for them as soon as they are out.

Re: Any Ebayers up in here???

I've had quite a bit of luck with selling high end designer items. I was (haven't done it in a while) a "special customer" at my local Off 5th (Saks outlet) and Last Call by Neiman Marcus. So they'd hold an amazing Chanel coat for me or some awesome YSL skirt.

I paid $400 for a $3,000 Chanel skirt, googled it to discover that Katie Holmes wore it, popped the photograph of her in it on my listing and sold it for $1,200. Chanel's been good to me - some earrings were shown in InStyle and I called to order them from Chanel for $250 (costume, of course). They ended up selling out worldwide before they hit the stores - I didn't like them. Put them on eBay and they sold for $550. Insane.

I've also lived by theory that I "rent" the designer stuff I have, I don't really own it. I buy it for a bargain, wear it til I'm sick of it and still end up selling it on eBay for at least twice what I paid. My problem is that I heart everything I have at the moment - there's not one Chanel bag I want to part with! Not great since movers don't understand the concept of $500 shoes or a Jimmy Choo bag - and I'm shipping it all across the country here soon!

Made a killing on these Chloe camisoles a while back, too. They had dozens on clearance at the NM outlet for $35. I bought ten. They were orig. $1K and Chloe is (or was at the time...) huge in Japan! Sold each one for $300-$400. Every last one went to Japan.

Then there are the odd deals, like the Manolos I found at Nordstrom Rack (as the doors opened at 8am for their couture clearance). Two black pairs of Manolos, $99 each. Orig. $550-$600. Both sold for over $400. Awesome. Anything black always sells and well, that was a great day!

So I'd say I've done a fair amount of eBaying - lol. It's all about having a good eye, knowing what's popular in various countries and hitting it at the right time to snag it cheap. I won't pay $2K for a coat - but I'd rather pay $500 for a $2K coat than $400 for a $400 one.  Laughing

Re: Any Ebayers up in here???

that is A-MAzing!  I am so impressed/jealous!  right now i don't have the start up funds to fork over much, so i've been buying a lot of stuff at tj maxx and loehmanns, which works out pretty well, but i'd love to eventually work up to higher end stuff.  It feels so nice to be able to shop for fun and scope out deals, and then make money off it.

I'm at feedback #222.

I've sold more than I bought but it's far from a business for me.  But it's been a good resource to get rid of stuff I bought but no longer need.  I recently sold a doubleneck guitar for $2150 that I bought for $800 and put $200 worth of parts into.

My favorite sale was when I sold a pair of used mountain bike shoes and cleats to a guy in Russia.  He was so happy that I would ship to Russia.  Apparently they aren't available over there  :)

My friend (I swear it was a friend, NOT me! LOL) used to sell her used underwear on ebay to kinky people who wanted her used panties! This was years ago, so I don't know if ebay still lets you do that, they probably don't really care. But anyway, she would buy a pair of 99 cent panties and sell them for $16 - $30! Of course she got tired of all the lewd emails, so she quit selling.

does anyone remember a few years ago a jilted groom who listed his bride's dress on eBay and was wearing/modeling it in the auction pics? and it was such a big deal that he hit the talk show circuit?

Yes! That was hilarious. In fact I think he was offered a book deal or something. Too much! LOL

I had to google it just to laugh again:
