.au sound file: What program to play OR convert

I have 102 mb of .au files (named b00000 through b00293) that I need to get to work. Seems the .au extention doesn't work with anything I've got. I downloaded a converter a while back but it didn't work. Anyone know how to get them up and going again? I think they were genereated from an old fax program I had that would take messages, about three computers ago - in 2006!

.au files should be able to be played in Windows Media Player. If that fails, try downloading VLC Player. It pretty much plays everything.

If you still cant get it to work, you can use this converter

Thanks! Now, I can tell that it's playing them, but I don't hear anything. speakers and program are turned up - just tried the program on an mp3 file and all is working fine. Guess what's in these files is lost. bummer.
