It's gettin kinda long, I coulda said it was in my way...

I feel like letting my freak flag fly

Yes, I feel like I owe it to someone

Hospice. Since Wednesday evening. We went last night to say our good-byes. Their father had to do something that no parent should ever be asked, he signed a Do Not Resuscitate Order for his 34 year old daughter. My heart broke for him. I'm certain it was the most difficult thing he's ever had to do in his life. My own father cried as I told him. She's been in a coma since late Wednesday night. Her eyes flutter open occasionally, she moans in pain, and she has the hiccups. They're just giving her pain meds to keep her "comfortable", along with humidified oxygen to make it easier to breathe. It won't be long.

In slightly related news, I've been growing my hair for the last 5 years, intending to donate it to Locks of Love. Like many women, I'm a fussy biotch about my hair, and I haven't had the transportation to visit the woman in my hometown, the one I've been going to since I was 15 or so, to have her cut it. Well, it's time. It's down to my lower back, if it grows another inch, I'll be able to tuck it into my waistband. It's long, it's blonde, and I HATE it. However, there's a little girl somewhere who lost all of hers due to some horrible disease. She'll LOVE it. It's hers, whoever she is. I hope she enjoys it long enough to get better and not need it. My mother is picking me up around noon, and as of 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, my near waist-length mane will look something like this:

There's nothing I can do for my SIL. At least I can help someone else a tiny bit. It's not much, but it's something.

Thats awesome to donate to  Locks of Love. Bless you!

I really like the style :)

 I love it!  It's gorgeous!

If I was standing on a fish, I'd slip and fall......

Oh wow, it looks so great. You did such an awesome thing, and think of all the $$ you'll save in shampoo, conditioner, hair products... :)

Be yourself...... Everyone else is taken!

 LadyC, So sorry for your sadness and so proud to have such a giving person as a friend. Beautiful style!!  juliek

Haha, I've been doing that all afternoon.  My head feels 20 pounds lighter, shampooing it should be interesting.

And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden"

Wow, what a difference! And for a good cause even.  You'll constantly be reaching back for it... "oh yeah, its gone now!"

wow! love the hair. both long and short.....and the color is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s! you are lucky, most women do not have the *rhymes with stalls* to cut hair of the length and take on a new style. i love it!

Love the new 'do! You did a good thing LadyC-im in awe of you!

To you it may not be much, but to the person who receives your locks of love, it means the world.

Dont sell what you are doing short- you are enabling someone who is having a terribly hard time to feel just a bit better about themselves and that is the best gift you can ever give.

LadyC, my thoughts are with you and yours.

Beautiful you are for cutting your hair to give to someone else.  Absolutely beautiful.

If I was standing on a fish, I'd slip and fall......

They'll accept donations of 10 or more inches, so, you don't have to go drastically short to donate, depending on your length.  I just measured mine, out of curiosity, and the ponytail is 18", so I could go longer, get a chin length bob or something, but I kinda dig the style I posted.  I'll post pics tomorrow, as long as Mom remembers her camera.

SIL did the same thing before she started her treatment.  She briefly considered having the hair made into a wig for herself, out of her own hair, but instead, settled for covering her stubble with a bandana.

I'm happy your friend is doing well, that's a rough procedure.  I've never done it myself, but I've been told that simply donating bone marrow is an excruciatingly painful experience.   Congrats to her!

That's so awesome Lady, I have a friend who at the age of 18 needed a bone marrow transplant. She donated her hair to locks of love before she started her treatment, and never even got a wig herself. She thought that a little girl somewhere needed it more. I'm happy to say the transplant took, and she is living a happy life, in fact getting married next year!

oh- love the style (photograph) you provided. i can totally see that cut in so many different styles. very versatile and practical. great cut for those who love to wear hoop earings or long earings and have them show!

I'm very sorry to hear about your SIL. I can only say that I hope it provides some comfort to know that she is now in peace. It's hard to lose someone at any age, but it's even harder for a parent to see his or her child go before him or her.

As for your donation, proud of you! You're right, there are some people out there that need hair. I mean, I take mine for granted. I should donate some of mine, since mine is down to my waist!

The hospice, for what it is, was actually very nice.  The whole family was there last night, along with several friends.  She won't be alone when she crosses over.  She wasn't alone when she went into the coma.  And I know she has people waiting for her on the other side.  We've been making sure that someone's always sitting in the chair in her line of site for when her eyes flutter open, so she knows she's not alone.

As for the hair, I've been wanting to do it for a while, keep putting it off so I can give "a few more inches".  I was pleasantly surprised to see on their website that 80% of their donations come from children!   Go Mini-You, and all the other kids doing something that can make a difference for someone else.

Boyfriend and I aren't exactly the religious types, but the Serenity Prayer has helped a lot.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

awe. ladyC, that is a beautiful gesture. mini me did that with her hair when she was only 4 years old. she had snow white hair down to the top of her jeans. the stylist put it into a ponytail and with one snip, she was sporting a new do! i'm excited for you. i would love to see the before & after if you are willing to share.

as it relates to your SIL, hospice is a wonderful program. they have a great wealth of support and help on their site. went through it with my MIL when she was only 51 (lung cancer). we used to say that hospice was a waiting room as our heavenly father prepared his gates to open. hospice brings closure for everyone and support as well. you have mine. again, you continue to demonstrate a tremendous amount of strength. you have found inner peace.

peace is available if we choose it. in spite of chaos and unsolved problems, all is well. things will work out. we can surround ourselves with resources of the universe: water, earth, a sunset, a walk, a prayer, a friend. we can relax and feel peace.

Today I will let go of my need to stay in turmoil. I will cultivate peace and trust that timely solutions and goodness will arise naturally and harmoniously out of the wellspring of peace. I will consciously let go and let God.
