Broken Gateway drivers disc
Heeeeeeeeeeeeellp! I have an older gateway computer and still have my o/s disc but when I moved I found my drivers disc at the bottom of a box broken:( BOOOO! I dont know how to put my drivers and such back on if I do reformat my computer (I dont know how to search for them online either). Which I need to because it is lagging bad! I contacted Gateway for the disc.. But they gave me a broken website and a phone number that doesnt work. Please help me. Thanks kindly!!

Go to this site:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp

You'll have to enter the serial number of your computer (it'll be between 10 and 22 characters depending)... there's a link under where you enter the serial number to help you find it (in my experience it was on a sticker on the back of the computer)

then download the drivers you need, and save them to something you computer can read (flash drive / cd / floppy disk)

Be sure and protect your operating system disk.  In fact, copy it.  Twice.  Gateway is the only manufacturer I've run across that "locks down" the serial key and has blocks in place to prevent the installation of a clean install from a generic Windows disk where the installer uses the serial key that is printed on the Microsoft sticker that is affixed to the side of the machine.  I encounter this on Gateway's XP machines.  Microsoft is no help - they say it's a Gateway licensing issue.  Gateway would not help me activate my customer's computer without paying more money even though they already paid the licensing on the current machine. It's reasons like this that I will recommend some major manufacturers over others.  Needless to say, my customers looking for new computer advice are steered away from Gateway.
