Free virus help - How to delete a virus

Help! How do I remove a virus?

Our website is mainly focused on the prevention of bad things happening to your Windows PC. If you didn't find our site until after something bad has happened, we can still help.. Probably.

I think (or know) I have a virus!

If you're able to get onto the internet and read our website, you're better off than most others with a virus!
First of all, verify that you actually have a virus. Many people think they have a virus when they actually have spyware, or some other issue. If your anti virus isn't detecting anything, or if you don't have an antivirus program head on over to Trend Micro's free Housecall website. From Trend Micro's Housecall page you can scan your PC for viruses and follow their instructions for removing anything bad that it finds. After you've cleaned your PC, read our how to prevent a virus page to make sure you never get infected with a virus again.

What if no virus is found?

If you don't have a virus, it's possible, nay, probable, that you have spy-ware in your PC. To scan your PC for spyware find and download 'Spybot Search & Destroy', Adaware, or other "antispyware' software. Use the links on my page or the search feature to find and download them. After installing and scanning your PC, follow the directions for removing the offending spy-ware.

If the anti virus and antispyware programs don't fix your problems it's time to get geeky. Unfortunately resolving more complex problems on your PC are beyond the scope of this website. Check the learning more page for links to other diagnostic software and helpful websites.

Always use a good antivirus program

Having a good, current, antivirus program installed on your Windows PC is essential. Good antivirus software is available online at a minimal cost. The cost of anti-virus is far less then the cost of loosing all your files or having to pay for a professional to fix your virus-infested computer!

AVG Free is good I have found to delete the most stubborn viruses.

what is the best Ani Virus in Free Category

I have 2 laptops so luckily I can get online for help but I am getting various errors regarding api-ms-win-service-core-l1-1-0.dll whenever I try to open an application. It says this file is missing from my computer. The issue started after I restarted my computer and it did some stuff with the registry (text on a black screen that scrolled by rather quickly) when I had some updates to install. I am using windows 7 on my machine and do have norton antivirus but it says its not running even though I didnt turn it off. I am not a computer guru by any means but I can use google and tried pretty much everything i could find. I already tried downloading the file and transfering it via flash drive to windows/system 32 and restarting. I'm really at a loss here so any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Let me know if you need anymore information.

I was told I had a trojen on my computer. I refreshed my computer and lost 20% of my apps. How do I return to previous version with all apps.?

If by "refreshed" you mean you formatted or "restored to original", then you will have to re-install all of the apps that are missing. This is normal, as a reformat or "restore to original settings" puts the computer back the way it was the day you bought it.
if you mean some else by 'refreshed', then please explain further.
