Collecting--- Labor of Love

So I noticed we didn't have a thread here for one of the most fun things to do: Collect objects of like subjects. Some collect coins, stamps, figurines, clothing, etc.

So GuG, what do you collect? I know we would love to see some pictures of your collection!

I guess I'll start and say that I collect dragon items. I don't know what sparked my interest in dragons, but I pick up a piece anytime I get a chance.... I currently have around 15-20 pieces in my collection, ranging from very small and cheap to big and pricey. My favorite piece, and the most expensive, is a hand carved three headed dragon that I got at the Renaissance Festival for $200. Its beautiful and the detail is out of this world.... I'll have to take some pics and post them.

Semie Moseley went to the church my grandpa pastored for awhile. I have an old Mosirte electric bass he gave him (I think it must have been mid 1960s). It doesn't get out of the garage much.

I collect books and moose stuff. Both collections started on one of my travels.

I started collecting books in 8th grade. I was in Williamsburg while on a trip to DC with my class. My teacher had always suggested classic novelsfor me to read throughout the year and we would discuss them. At Williamsburg she found and an old Jane Eyre and bought it for me. It is still one of my favorites.

I started collecting moose a few years late while on a road trip of the states. I bought one in Wyoming and vermont. A few years later I hit the jackpot on a trip to Maine... it is like moose heaven there!

Ahhhh. I love it. I was just at a craft fair and saw a moose silhouette like on your wall (only not 8ft). I couldn't bring myself to buy it because I just don't have the space. I want to come live in your vacation home now. I’ll bring my collection with me.

I did buy two wood moose that connect and had my fiancé’s last name engraved on them.

Rays, you should check out my MySpace, Somewhere in my pics is one of a marble dragon statue I have in my living room. The thing is awesome. Not too big, but solid marble so its quite hefty. Must be 20 - 30 lbs. I also have a lot of dragon stuff around. Mostly its been given to me. Small statues, a table-top fountain, etc...

My unhealthy collection obsession was comics and action figures. I still buy the comics, its where I get my dose of fiction. And being an ex-art major, I appreciate the artwork as well. I must have about 3000 comics, hundreds of the figures but I don't pick them up any more. I also kinda collected Chicago Bears stuff. Again, a lot of it was given to me. Oh, and I collect beer bottles. Whenever I try a new beer, I keep the bottle. They're setup on top of my kitchen cabinets. I also have a small shot-glass collection.

My wife is guilty of collecting stuff as well. Betwen the 2 of us we could fill a small museum. We're both pack-rats and have a hard time throwing stuff away. Never know when it may prove itself useful...

Re: Collecting--- Labor of Love

One of my sisters gave me a frog trinket that said "Best Buddies". Well, not to be outdone, another sister got me a few frog trinkets. Then somehow the whole family thinks I'm collecting frog stuff and everybody's giving me things with frogs. It turned out to be really funny and I have boxes and boxes of frog things put away.
