I can tell you one thing. After being a cashier at a Shell gas station for 6 years and selling Lotto tickets to people, I see the same people over and over again, essentially giving cash away to the Lottery company. One person might spend $100 on lotto tickets but only win a few replays or $5 at the most. Now, your chances are higher if you play the scratchers or if you play Daily 3 (in California at least, pick 3 numbers).
But I am still highly against it. I see too many people give into it, and go bankrupt and lose all their hard earned money on something that your chances are 1:1,999,999,999.
You'd make more money investing $10 a day into a bank account, cause by the time your 65 and retired (if you started at 18), over $170,000 without interest (imagine if there was a 3-6% interest on that baby...)
That us!!! I scan our $50 worth of tickets twice a week, add the winnings to the $50 worth of numbers I intended to buy. Average winning after scanning 50 Powerball numbers is $5. It's a losing game, no doubt.
See, I love those people. In Georgia, almost all of the lottery money goes to the HOPE scholarship, that pays for almost all of a college education, so thank God for gamblers in Georgia.

I hear ya, and when someone in my office is playing, i'll join in, I definitely dont want to be the only one who doesn't get struck in the butt either....lol....as far as scratch cards are concerned I do buy once in a while, the most i've won is a miserly $20, but it felt good to win it.

Yeah.. thing with a group is if you didn't play and you SHOULD have played, your going to know it and it will sting like a mofo. But if you're on your own and didn't play, you can just assume you wouldn't have won.
Can you imagine the pain if you usually played with a group and one time decided not to join and they hit it? OMG. Just run me over.
Of course, I need to sell the Lotto tix for money for the business for profit, so I always tell them, "you never buy, you never win".
