We are picking up a new puppy and the war has been raging over what to name him. He is a Chihuahua that will weigh about 4 pounds fully grown. We have been trying to come up with something original but most definitely southern.
Here is a link to his pictures:

He is the one toward the bottom of the page they are calling "Brody". However he can not keep this name because that was the name of the Alabama quarterback and I am an Auburn fan.
Here are a few of the names that have been suggested so far:
Cornbread - My daughter has decided she is calling him this regardless of what I name him.
Nickelback- Called "Nick" or "Nickel". This is fitting because it is a southern band and he is silver and about the size of a nickel.
Tonic- The choice of the guys. Another southern band.
Mason or Dixon- For the Mason-Dixon line
Shinedown - Called "Shine" which could be for the band or what moonshine is typically referred to. However I am not sure that I want him to have that much bite or lingering effects.
Gabriel - Called "Gabe" A little angel?
Kudzu - Fairly passive and pretty but takes over EVERYTHING. Chi's are known for being territorial.
Cowboy
Humdinger
Jasper - A city in Alabama and also a gem stone.
Dammit - Husband just cutting to the chase because he knows he is going to lose a few pairs of shoes and a lot of archery equipment. Hee Hee good puppy.
What do you think of these? Does anyone have some better suggestions?
OMG hes soooo cute!
and this made me LOL:
I love the name Nickel. I think thats perfectly fitting. However, yur husband has a point- Might as well call him Dammit. I live with a 5 month old puppy right now, so I totally feel where your man is coming from! I also really like Jasper. But it reminds me of the sissy boy from Twilight. Those are my top 3 :)
Good luck and make sure to show us lots of pictures when you bring him home!
"Who is this irresistible creature who has an insatiable love for the dead? Living Dead Girl"
"Duke"
Cujo
hahaha! My friend has a teapcup chihuahua named Thor. It makes me laugh everytime!

haha! i love thor! .......or conan. ha! how bout spike? for southern names to go with dogs i am reminded of copper. like from fox and the hound. dont know why. for a texas name i think of the salsa....i cant remember...pace? "new york city??!!"
Yea right. LOL. Dogs tend to grow into their names. He would wind up biting everybody he came in contact with and I could say goodbye to the furniture and rugs. However he would give a whole new meaning to the phrase "ankle biter".
Austin
Jackson
both are southern cities.
><))))'>
Great minds think alike. I actually like both of these. However, I live in San Antonio so Austin is a common word. The poor little thing would stay confused because he would think everybody was calling him when they were actually refering to the city.
As for Jackson it makes me think more of Andrew Jackson. However, this is a favored name in the town I grew up in because it was near a national park where Jackson fought one of his battles. If you saw a male dog and called it Jack you had a 50/50 chance of being right. lol.
you're correct! Austin is common. here are a few more southern names that work for male dogs: Cody, Cooper, Beau, Roscoe, Sawyer.
Jackson is my fav.

Vote: Cornbread. I mean, that made me smile just reading it. Plus it's southern.
I don't want to die without any scars.
