More computer issues...not mine this time!

Okay so a friend of mine recently had a virus on his PC.  His brother (who knows a thing or two about computers) has been trying to work out all the problems and managed to get his internet working again.  Only thing is, all his files are gone.  The only thing left is his Itunes library.  All pictures, documents are missing.  I was reading a few posts about how to delete all files permanently from a hard drive.  So, my question is, how do you recover them?  They tried doing a search and a system restore already...is that it?

And yes, he should have gotten a Mac.  ;)

, do you mean "System Repair" instead of "System Restore"?  I have done "System Restore" many times and never lost a document or photo.

Oh that's upsetting...some of those pictures are of all of my friends together over the last several years and this friend never got around to emailing them to me...I don't know if it was backed up.  I'll ask... thanks

Download this:

I've had some good luck recovering stuff using it. It's free. It is not perfect and a system restore makes things worse but it's better than nothing.

Some reading material

Good luck.

I know that on my comp it gives me 5 system restore points. So it's almost like going back in time for PC. Perhaps you can go back to a restore point before the virus entered the system, and recover the old files. It's worth a shot.
