inaccessible boot device error

It means the boot device (the hard drive) is inaccessible - the computer cant see/connect to/read the hard drive with the operating system needed to boot up. It could be due to anything from a failed hard drive or failed hard drive controller, to a loose cable.

Check the CD-ROM drive or the floppy drive, sometimes when there's a disk in there it will try to boot but fail because the disk isn't set up to be bootable. Most often times than not it's something very simple like that. Then if that's not the issue check the cables, unplug them and plug them back in, sometimes corrosion or dust can disrupt communication. If that's not the case then it's probably a failed drive. You can swap with a known working one or test it using a boot disk or built in BIOS diagnostics. That will give you a more specific error code which may point out a specific issue.

If it was me and I had just bought it, I would take it back.. Your other option is to just pop-in the restore CDs and start over. IF after doing a restore you have the same trouble, then it's probably a hardware issue and it really needs to go back.
