Credit Card Theft

I'm new here and I am wondering if anyone could help me. I live in Sedona, AZ and someone used my credit card in Kern County, CA. I have never been there but I recently purchased some computer equiptment from a company in Ca online. It was used four times in Kern County at local mom and pop stores. I use IE to do any banking and purchasing, my question is, could someone have hacked my computer and stole my credit card info or do you think it's the computer company based in CA that sold my cc info?

Thanks so much for anyone's input.

When you used this site based in california, did the  url read http or https...The latter of the two ensures that your information is safe. (S) for secure/security. Most of the time the address bar will turn yellow to let you know that you are giving your information to a secure site. Does anyone else have access to your computer?  Do you open emails  from people you don't know? Or - not to be funny- visit erotic sites?

No, hahaha I don't visit erotic sites and I am the only who has access to my computer. Also when I purchased the equiptment there was a lock after the url. I can't remember if it turned yellow. The url read http with no s.

Thanks again!

Re: Credit Card Theft

I since reported my credit card as fraudulently used and had it replaced. It was used at those local stores and swiped.

I did. But after I payed a bill using Mozila browser, I ran ad aware and it told me all my info was stored. I since cleared it out. I just rather pay bills and bank over the phone.

Thanks

Is it a crad that use use at ATMS or other self use locations, like a gas station where you manually swipe the card yourself. SOme of the more high tech theives actually have little readers that they can fit overtop of the REAL reader, so  when you swipe your card it is read by both, and allows them to "clone" your actual card.

Re: Credit Card Theft

It's a card you can swipe, a Visa to be exact. I think my card was cloned cause when I used it at this certain website it asked for my digits on the back as well. They two weeks later is was manually swiped. It wasn't a great amount but it's just a reminder what kind of technology we live in today. Be careful out there...

Thanks all!
