Do I dare take this?

I have "acquired" a full, giant bottle of a multivitamin. It has a ton of good looking stuff in it, aside from the usual multivitamins, it has a bunch of antioxidants in it as well.

The thing I have an issue with, it's is a "woman's" multivitamin. Being 121% all beefcake manmeat, I'm wondering if it's "safe" to take it every day. I mean, I know they're vitamins so it's "safe", but it's formulated specially for women, so will I suddenly, I dunno ... get strange urges to spend 3 hours in a shoe store? Will I get cranky baby syndrome one week per month? Will I sprout milk wagons? And if I get the desire to learn how to knit macramé I'm tossing this stuff out the window!

according to my gynecologist, the main difference between a woman's vitamin vs. a man's vitamins is that they contain an iron supplement (which is needed more by women because we menstruate). excess iron in men can cause health problems. men's vitamin supplements generally don't contain iron for this reason....

Excess Iron and Heart Attacks:

The free radicals which are produced by iron can promote the development of heart disease. Free radicals can damage (oxidize) cholesterol in the blood. When cholesterol has been oxidized, it is much more likely to "get stuck" in the arteries and blood vessels in the body and especially in the arteries that deliver nutrients and oxygen to the heart. When too much of this cholesterol becomes stuck in the arteries, it makes the inside of the artery smaller, and less blood can get to the heart muscle. Eventually, the blood flow may become so reduced that the heart cannot receive enough oxygen and nutrients, and some of the "starved" heart tissue may die-this is called a heart attack. Heart attacks are one of the leading killers of people in this country and are a very common cause of death in men. Men who have high levels of iron are at an increased risk for heart attack.

Oooh, good point, thanks Tuna. I'm going to go look up how much iron is in this stuff.

I just looked it up, and it has 18mg of Iron per pill, and I've taken it for 2 days now. OMG!

My mom had an extra bottle and gave it to me. Who was it that said mother's always know best? lol

This reminds me of a story. My good friend told me about a young man he once knew who was deeply depressed. One day he decided to kill himself and took a whole bottle of his mother's pills. It was estrogen. The doctor said he'd be fine and if anything, would be acting a little "different" the next few days. Needless to say, I think you'll be okay. ;)

No, it's perfectly fine to take.  *i'm retracting that part ;) * Women vitamins contain extra iron and black cohosh. Black cohosh is good for menstrual cramps and hot flashes, arthritis and muscle pain. It also helps to fight cancer so it's good to take. Lol, you won't get women urges. The best vitamins on the market are for women anyways. We are more likely to take them faster then a man. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm stopping today, but at least for today maybe it'll at least stop all these hot flashes and menstrual cramps I've been having. :)
