dell dimension 5100 stop error 0x00000024

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 5100 computer with no floppy drive with XP. I turn it on and I get as far as the windows Xp screen. The it takes me to a page that says stop: 0x00000024 (0x00190203) 0x86FD3570 0xC0000102 0x00000000. I can't load windows at all. What does it means and how do I fix this?

See if you can get into Windows in "safe mode".
If you cant get into Safe Mode, you may need to go into the "Recovery Console" by booting up on your XP CD..

Once in safe mode or recovery mode, try running CHKDSK.

If you need help with any of the steps, just reply.

ok I can't get into safe mode. I have a XP disk that came with Dell.. Is that the disk to use? How do I do this? What steps do I need to take?

Put your Dell XP cd into the cd drive then reboot - the computer should boot from the CD (if not, you may have to get into your BIOS settings to tell the computer to boot from the CD before the hdd (hard drive))..
After booting from the CD - the welcome/startup screen should have an option somewhere about pressing 'R" for recovery. After choosing the recovery console it should put you into a black "DOS" type window. From there, type CHKDSK /F and cross your fingers and press ENTER..

You DO have everything important backed-up.. right?

Hi hubby,
I'm hoping you can help me also. I am receiving the same type of error, however when i try to boot using the Dell Resource CD, it does not work (and I changed to settings to boot from cd first).

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

1) try booting from another bootable CD to determine if maybe the Dell CD is bad
2) call Dell ?

Uhmmm...excuse me for eavesdropping...I bought a Dell 5100 at the goodwill for $20...no HD. I brought it home, and dusted it off, then I bought a used SATA 250GB HD on craigslist to plug into it....Dells friendly support crew in India has been very patient with me for hours tying to explain they can not send a recovery disk to me since my express service code is under someone elses name, they were also nice enough to tell me that if I go through every number in the whitepages for the Spokane, WA & Coeur d'Alene ID area and actually find who dropped it off at a goodwill pick up, and convince them to go on line and fill out an ownership transfer, they will gladly send me a restore disk. I need help getting a disk to make this work....can you help me?

Thanks
Quinn
