Dimension 4600

Hello, Im a newbie. Found this site while looking for help with a computer that has heat problems. Wish I would have found this a long time ago. The 4600 may be mine if I can fix it. That would be great since all I have is a laptop that I truely love, but nothing like a desktop for normal use which is mostly what I do. Where should I go to find out about the heat problem with the 4600?

 Check out this SITE

And also, can you tell where the heat is coming from? It could be running a pentium 4 which tends to get a bit hotter. Are the fans running? Are they running properly? Sometimes you need to add a heat-sink or heat gel to some of the components to help keep them cool. What happens when it gets hot? Is it shutting down- or does it just "get hot"?

Hi Almlost Elvis, the computer has no OS installed and it runs hot before I can install it. That was the last time I messed with it for a friend that actually owns it. I've got a feeling I can get the computer for little or nothing and I need a desk top badly.....but that all I can tell you right now until I get the cord back for the monitor. I touched the heat sink (big aluminum fins) and they were almost scorching hot to the best of my memory the fan was running fine.......I got an immediate flash back to "01 or 03" time frame when I took my upgrade course, that the privious owner may have been tampering with the bios or whatever it is that allows you to over clock the processor. That is remembering back then overclocking was a hot topic, I may be completely off base because I took the course to help me, not to become a technition. What Im trying to say is I don't know what I'm doing and that was just the first thing that came to my mind.....I am going to get the cord and set it up again and let you know exactly, step by step what happens and as soon as I do I will find you and see what you think if thats ok with you.

Thanks a lot, I forgot to mention that is it a Pentium 4 - 3.20 GHz / 1M/ 800 and the gel for the heat sink is hard and dry which may or maynot be a problem, I will get some more anyway. I just got a feeling this is a great first computer especially not having a desk top....Thanks Almost!
