Before you do, ask the people you're visiting how the roads are kept.  You might not need to do anything besides the radials you already own.

Okay, update!  We talked to my future step dauhter's mother.  She uses all seasons on her car and they work well.  so I am good!  Woo hoo!  No snow tires!

Driving in the snow

it happened! mini and i ventured out to spend some of her holiday gift cards. there were a few flurries when we initially set out. 3 hours later we come out of the mall and it is a white out, which means a slip-n-slide drive home. the freeway was pretty clear and there were several salt trucks & snow plows in site. however, once we hit the rural roads which are by no means straight or flat, it was white knuckle driving at its finest. at one point i had to stop in my tracks as i couldn't get my wheels to straighten out w/out spinning sideways. so i put on my e-flashers and waited patiently until another car came down that road. which was 35 minutes - that sucked. i got out and walked back to his window and he seen my AZ plates and smiled. nice old man! he told me to just put my suburban in low gear and let off the brakes. worked like a charm!

Oh yeah, shoulda mentioned low gear! And if you're sliding... always turn WITH the slide... get those wheels actually working then you can slowly get them to go where you want them to go.. Um, yeah and brakes... not always the best thing.

Be yourself...... Everyone else is taken!

the 'low gear' was key yesterday in getting us home. i just could not straighten the wheel out without ending up sideways on this steep hill heading downward. then each time i applied the brakes it just grew worse. mini shared her "fear of mommy driving" during her highs & low's at dinner last evening. today i'm grounded from driving !

but as i watched husband fish tail all the way out of the drive way this morning with little or no traction at all, i have no problem vegging inside today.
