Explorer not responding
I have a brand new Samsung computer. All was working fine until yesterday when I was using a usb cable to transfer files. I moved the all in one computer to access the ports, and the screen threw me up an error message to say that the PC would shut-down and restart. When it did, explorer wouldn't do as it had been doing for months.I tried a system restore, but its still not working properly. I've done a full system scan and checked my anti virus software. All good. Microsoft Outlook is slow to respond too and I keep getting the message 'Explorer is not responding'. Please help as this is wrecking my head. ( I can use Chrome no problem- installed it as I needed a browser for work yesterday)

Re: Explorer not responding

Not being able to use Internet Explorer is not a bad thing.. But, something is wrong that should be fixed.

I don't know what I moved the all in one computer means, but I'm guessing you were physically moving the computer around when this error occurred? Something may have gone fubar with the hard drive (of course it could be aballion other things too). Have you tried running a disk scan/disk repair?

Thanks so much for replying.... The computer is an all in one/screen/hardrive. No tower. I simply moved the screen around to access the ports and got the error message. I have tried a scan disk repair already too.

Re: Explorer not responding

Ahh the joys of using Windows....

Like I said, could be a bazillion things..
If it's not the hard drive, I would wonder if something got bumped/warped inside when you moved it, or maybe your internet cable came loose or something - but that would affect all programs that use your internet, so more than just Internet Explorer and Outlook. Have you done any speed tests in Chrome or Firefox to make sure you are getting your advertised speeds?

I dont think there is any fast/easy solution or button to click to fix this.. You're going to do some serious troubleshooting.. These are some of the options that come to mind:
1) Do a full hardware diagnostic to make sure nothing is physically wrong
2) Do full technical troubleshooting of Outlook & Internet Explorer, figure out what's wrong then figure out how to fix it
3) Try a full wipe-and restore/reformat (just make sure you have backups of everything you care about first!)
3) Pay a professional to figure out and fix whatever's wrong
4) Dump it in the trash and by a Mac!
5) Just don't use Internet Explorer and Outlook. There are plenty of free alternatives to both that do virtually everything just as well, or better.

Re: Explorer not responding
Would you know how to just remove explorer off the hard drive and perhaps then I could go for a reinstall? Its not a separate programme I've already checked that.

Re: Explorer not responding

I dont know the steps to fully remove Explorer - if that's even possible (in the past, it was not possible - Microsoft got sued for that). I think there is a reinstall/repair option in the Add/Remove programs section.

Re: Explorer not responding

Nope not in the new version there isn't :-( Never mind, back to the other options :-) Thanks...

Re: Explorer not responding
Oh Rand.... :-) I realise that you are not a Windows fan and when buying this new PC i seriously considered buying a Mac but chickened out in the end ;-) Will attempt some of the fixes that you listed this evening and tomorrow and if I cannot sort it out I may try a paid call to Microsoft support in Dublin to see if they can fix it. Otherwise I will have to take the 3rd option and have a professional person look at it. Many many thanks for your help as always. Val

Re: Explorer not responding

Hey, i'm a huge Windows fan when Windows does what I need, the way I want it, without messing up! The only problem is, Windows has not done that for years.

Good luck. Come back if/when you get it resolved and let us know what the issue was, how it got fixed, and how much it costed you.

...then go to the Apple store and test-drive a Mac :)

I will do :-)

Re: Explorer not responding

Hey there.... After trying all your helpful options (with none of them working) I put a call into Microsoft. I did have to pay a premium of €110 ( but that will cover any further support for a full year) and they eventually sorted the problem for me. There was a corruption in explorer and the tech assistant ported into my pc and sorted the problem out after a frustratingly long time where I did most of the work myself. Ces't la vie.... Next time I am in the market for a pc I am DEFINATELY going to buy a mac :-) Thanks for your continued support. Until the next time.... Val
