THIS SITE was pretty cool when I found it a good while back... it explains the really cool noises ferrets make... and the SPEEDBUMP.... I tried to mention that earlier but forgot what it was called to better describe it...  Along with the Weasel War Dance lol... it's a good short little blurb about ferret behavior...

o yea the weasel war dance! that is funny. ours would attack our lab (playfully) and he would cower. all our animals knew the ferret was in charge but the 130 pound dog running from this 2 pound ferret was hilarious! or youd be sitting ( a siting target to the ferret) and all of a sudden she would do the "dance" and your feet or leg would be at her mercy.

Well so far there's not a whole lot to tell...

The little guy's been pretty much no trouble at all. Sure it's a bit different having him around but it's nothing I can't handle. I'll recap the highlights of the last 24hrs for everyone...

  • The most exciting thing that's happened between Festus and myself was the ride home. For anyone one else out there who may find themselves picking up a ferret all alone do not, I repeat do not expect the little critter to sleep the whole ride home no matter what you've been told. I thought about rigging up a box to put the little guy in, but I didn't have any empty ones. And being lazy I decided that a laundry basket fitted with an old sheet would be something he couldn't resist sleeping in on our ride home. I was wrong. The little bastard would not stay still no matter how much I pleaded with him. And FYI sweet talking a ferret is pointless! He was exploring the cab of my truck the whole way home. And of course his favorite spots where the ones I DID NOT want him in. I had to drive for close to an hour with my right foot barely touching the gas pedal, my left foot underneath the clutch and my heels touching each other. By doing so I blocked off all but one access point he had to get underneath my feet, and yes he found that one point very quickly. I spent most of the drive home hollering at him to go away, but instead of listening he thought it'd be a grand idea to climb up my pant leg. I'm 30 years old and for the 1st time in I have no idea how long I almost cried, both times. Well after driving VERY slowly I finally made it home. Since thing things haven't been nearly as exciting.
  • Festus spent most of the 1st night, and pretty much all of the next day exploring. As I said before I have a Blue Healer. Since he sheds like crazy I only allow him to hang out in one room of my house. And since ferrets have a unique scent I'm only letting the little guy in the same room for now (While Kid is out in the yard). The room is my den where my computer is and where I spend most of my time while I'm home. Other then my desk and a few book shelf's the only furniture I have in there is a small sofa and it took him all of 10 mins to start scratching a hole in the lining underneath it. Now his favorite place to sleep is in inside my sofa and getting him out can prove to be a headache.
  • Let's see what else??? Him and Pip seem to have a truce going one. She's not to happy he's here but no fights have broken out so far. I'm hopeful they'll become friends.
  • He pooped in the corner
  • Oh, and he talks in his sleep. Woke me up a couple of times last night and every time I turned the light on he was passed out just chatting away. (I have his cage in my bed room so I have a place to put him where Kid can't get to him)

Not much to tell other then that. So far he's been all kinds of mellow (other then the drive home) and doesn't seem to play much. Hopefully he's just getting used to my place and will open up soon. He seems to like me well enough, but this is the 2nd home he's had in less then 2 weeks so I'm sure things are a bit weird for him.

Updates will come as they happen.

Get used to it... best thing I found was investing in a couple of ferret littlerboxes for different rooms... you might need them for every corner if he's not well trained.

will the feret climb in the box and make or will the box just provide two more corners for it to make use of?

That's what they do... they poop in corners... I have no idea where they go in the wild where there are no walls...

Their litterboxes are designed for corners... The part you put in the corner is about 3 inches higher than the other sides...

Shrugs... for me they've always seemed naturally litter trained... stick a litterbox in a cage with the ferret, it uses the box, doesn't go anywhere else... but when it has a whole house to roam in... any corner will do unless it's well trained... a box nearby helps.

Holy crap *no pun intended* How much to those things cost? I just did a rough count and I have 49 corners to cover. That does not include closets or non-wall corners. I think it'll be cheaper to just clean up the poop.
