Finally got an iPhone

Thats right: I finally shelled out the cash to buy myself a 16 Gig iPhone 3G. I always held back because I thought the plan was stupidly expensive, but really it will only cost me $80 a month, and thats with unlimited texting. Anyway, my main question is to old iPhone users: I've owned my iPod Touch for a while, so I know the basics, but is there any tips or tricks I should know about my new phone?

FYI: If anyone is looking to buy an 8gig iPod Touch for cheap, feel free to message me. With my iPhone, I have no need for it.

So far, I love it... My favorite thing, atm, is the built in GPS... My little dot followed me home! Haha. But it seems it will be a good tool. Of course, the wireless network is great, and is relatively fast.

Tips for battery life:

  • turn off bluetooth if you don't use it
  • turn off the "ask to join networks" option (i forget the exact wording - it's in the wifi settings); this way it wont be searching for new WiFi AP's 24/7 - but it will still connect to networks you have already 'remembered'
  • turn off the 'push' email.. Just set your account(s) to good, oldfashioned "pull" ever xx hours/minutes

Tips to keep it clean:

  • dont use it while/after eating: frenchfries, hotwings, chicken nuggets, or any other finger foods.. you probably already knew that one from the 'touch

I laughed about the food, but I know thats a good point. I did get a screen protector for it, as well as a hard leather case, so hopefully it can be protected.

And as for the other three, I'll do that. Thanks. :)

Re: Finally got an iPhone

I do have a question. I made some ringtones, and dragged them to the "ringtone" folder of iTunes... I would say I added 5 or 6. However, when I went to apply them to certain people, it just targeted one ring tone and repeated it on the iPhone page 9 or 10 times. It was the same ringtone copied over and over, and the other ringtones were not to be found. I tried deleted that ringtone on iTunes, but it just moved to the next one on my list, and copied it 10 times....

Any ideas?

custom iphone ringtones

did you follow all of the documented steps for creating the ringtones? I seem to recall that you can only use ringtones made with Garage Band - i dont know if that's correct or not, but it would not surprise me.

If you arent using OS X, have a look here:  http://www.iphonefreak.com/2008/03/free-ringtones.html

Re: Finally got an iPhone

I fear I already know the answer, but is there anyway to move my music from my touch to my iPhone? A lot of my music came from other places other then my computer, and I could never track it all down again.

move music from iTouch to iPhone

So.. you had music in your itouch that was not in iTunes? if the music was in iTunes, it should all just sync into your iPhone when you connect it to iTunes..
??

Re: move music from iTouch to iPhone

Due to space constrains on my computer, I deleted a large part of my library. Not only that, but a lot of the music on my touch came from friends computers... So, basically, my music was just on my touch, not in iTunes.
