Overall grade/comments: Firefox is far superior than Internet Explorer. The upgrade was smooth, easy and error free

Anyone even remotely concerned about Windows/computer security knows that using Internet Explorer to browse the web is inherently dangerous. Most users agree that among choices of other free internet web-browsing software, Firefox is the leader. (as well as other computer & security experts) recommend using Firefox as the default internet web browser due to it's enhanced security, privacy features, and tabbed browsing. Because Firefox is free there is really no reason to not be using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer!

Upgrading from a previous version of Firefox is simple

Firefox has a built-in update checker that will notify you if a newer version is availble - this makes keeping Firefox current simple. If you missed your upgrade reminder, or ignored it, simply download and install the current version. All previous settings, bookmarks, cookies, etc will be upgraded. I timed how long it took me to upgrade to version 1.5.02 from the time I clicked the "Get Firefox" download button until the installation was complete. Total elapsed time: 1 minute 22 seconds. Of course, if you have a slow internet connection your download time will be much slower, but the upgrade/install portion should be as fast as mine - about 45 seconds.

Installation for first-time users is a snap!

Firefox makes it easy for users of Internet Explorer to switch to Firefox by offering to import all "Favorites" and other settings from Internet Explorer, making the transition virtually painless.

Faster Browsing

Firefox has very fast page loading as you navigate back and forward in a browsing session. Improvements to the engine that powers Firefox deliver more accurate display of complex Web sites, support for new Web standards, and better overall performance. Performace is as fast, or faster than Internet Explorer, and faster than most other less reliable browser programs.

Tabbed Browsing

By using tabbed browsing you can open multiple Web pages in a single browser window, and quickly flip back and forth. Drag and drop open tabs to keep related pages together. This feature alone makes Firefox worth the upgrade away from Internet Explorer!

Stronger Security

Firefox keeps your computer more secure when you’re browsing the internet, preventing spyware, worms, and viruses. The Firefox community of developers and security experts works around the clock to monitor security issues and release updates to better protect you.

Clear Private Data

Protect your privacy with the new Clear Private Data tool. With a single click, you can delete all personal data, including browsing history, cookies, Web form entries and passwords.

Firefox: Bottom line

Whether you're upgrading from an older version of Firefox, Internet Explorer, AOL, or any other internet web-browsing software, Firefox v1.5.0.2 is the clear winner in security, privacy, functionality and ease-of-use. You can download Firefox free of charge at our Firefox page.
