Forum Administrators and passwords

Do forum administrators have access to the passwords you use to log onto their forum?

On one forum I used to post on a few years back, I (follishly) used my main email address for my account on that forum and I think I used the same password to log onto that one as well as the same password for that email address. I didn't really think any thing of it at the time because that was pretty much the only email address I used for anything.

Now I'm wondering if they were able to log on and read my emails or do anything crafty with it.

That's why I want a record of IP address that habe logged onto my email from 2008 til fairly recently.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Forum Administrators and passwords

It depends on the forum, how it's setup and who has permission to what, but worst case YES .. The forum administrator/owner as well as the database administrator potentially has access to your stored password for the forum.

Hmm... what if it's used with the IP.Board Software?

Oh shoot, anxiety starting to kick in again LOL. Now I know before that Hotmail have told me they can't provide me with that info from 2008, and their help forum is quite useless anyway. but I stumbled across this though http://www.thehelphotline.co.uk/hotmail.html http://www.servicenumber.co.uk/2_hotmail.html Would you say these were trustworthy?

Sure, those websites are great if you enjoy flushing your money down the toilet.

Yeah, the calls do seem expensive, and who's to say I'll even get what I'm looking for lol. But I'm really losing a lot of sleep over this now. Hotmail are really useless. I even stopped using that email address like 2 years ago but before I delete it, I need those records. I'm kinda shaking while typing this. I had a lot of personal stuff on there like my CV and uni/college stuff, and personal conversations between friends. Everything was deleted like 2 years ago anyway, but still....

I don't know... What would you do if you were in my situation?

i think i've already answered that question in 2 or 3 other posts of yours, but from where i sit, these are the two options i see:
1) spend your life-savings on an attorney to get a court order for the information
2) forget about it and move on

*Sighs" I know right, some choice eh?! The funny thing is, I asked Hotmail back then on their forums, how I can go on about approaching them with an attorney and they STILL didn't respond. If YOU were faced with this option, what would YOU do though? Thanks for the help btw, very much appreciated.

I really would not be very worried about somone seeing my CV or email conversations with my friends. I would choose option #2.. But that's just me.. If its really that important.. And if you can afford it, go for option #1..
