Re: Front Loading Washing Machine Odor

Oh 2na its not the well water because I have city water now (for the last 10 months) and it still smells funky. Sorry I have to agree with LadyC it is probably humidity related.

edit: and definitely a review of the affresh is necessary because I would get that for sure!!!

I wish it was SUMMER!

okay, tag teamed by 2 seasoned east coast women. i'm sold. after reading lady.c's comment, i never considered humidity before. so let me ask this. there is a good size window in the laundry room. whether permitting, would it help if i kept it open when doing laundry? or, is it a moot point if it is humid outside?

If it's humid out, it's not even a moot point to open a window, it's counterproductive, you''ll just be letting more moisture in.  Although, opening the window and blowing a fan into the washer will probably help in the short term, help get it dried out.  I'm looking at that Affresh stuff, I'll bet you can get the same effect combining a cup of baking soda and a cup of Oxi-Clean in an empty, hot load.

i have oxy clean. is it safe for septics? i need to go read it. i'm willing to try anything. on some days, it smells like something crawled inside and died.

Looks like it's safe for septic.  Mildew's nasty stuff, hard to combat the smell sometimes.  Underneath my bathroom sink gets like that, and there's not much I can do except run fans, use Damp-Rid, and wait for it to dry.

excellent!! thanks for the research work & link. the mildew is not only rank, but is pretty fawking slimy and the goop that i fish out of the rubber gasket area is stuff like hair, gum wrappers, lint, sometimes coins, rubber bands/hair ponies. it's a wonder the health department is beating down my door.

i finished laundry today so i will try your suggestion first thing in the morning.

We had the same problem and it drove me bonkers...I hate smell! We ended up getting rid of them and buying the  H5 steam ones and have had no lsmell since. We did try the Affresh and it did nothing. It is not a humidity thing because we don't live in a humid area. Leaving the door open slightly helped some but I found once it started it never went away....

ugh! no kidding? i was so looking forward to Affresh being able to rid the smell, then just a simple wipe down after use each time to keep the gasket dry. thank you for the feedback Zoo Keeper.

Well I will say the Affresh smells nice ut that's about it. And I threw the whole package of circles in there to help....no go! But at least one mystery solved in all of this....the land of stolen socks was discovered!
