Craft supplies? Where to get them!

Crafting supplies.  Is it just me/my area, or are they getting harder and harder to find?  Rag Shop was my home away from home for the longest time.  I was so sad when they closed.

A.C. Moore.  I LOVE this store!  The almost always have what I need in stock when I need it.  Except fabric by the yard.  They might not always have enough, but they can always get me started on a project, and the staff is always willing to place orders for me if necessary.    Excellent bead selection!  Check your local store for class schedules.

JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores.  I've only been in 3 JoAnn's, again, I don't have any near here.  (actually, I do, it's new, and 12 miles away.  Guess I'm going shopping later this week :) )  I like what I've seen.  Good selection, their own store brand of yarn, reasonable prices, and sweet sales.  And fabric by the yard, something that seems to be a rarity in my area.  Check your local store for class schedules.

Michaels.  Similar to AC Moore, no fabric by the yard.  I prefer AC Moore for yarn, I don't feel like Michaels has as many nicer yarns (ie: NOT worsted weight acrylic)  I haven't shopped in one in ages, none near me, but I see that a new one opened near my parent's place, so I'll have to check it out when I'm up that way next, see if anything's changed. Check your local store for class schedules.

Smiley's Yarn.  I effin' LOVE this site!  Their prices are incredible, although their color selection is sometimes lacking.  If you're going to place an order, be aware that it's a $50 minimum purchase.  At $1.50 a skein, that's a LOT of yarn.  I split an order with my sister, and still needed Space Bags to store it all.  Order enough to finish your project completely, you WILL NOT get the same dye lot on your next order.

Treasure Island Patio and Crafts (yeah, odd combo) used to be fabulous for beads, but I can't find a website for them, and I'm starting to wonder if they've gone out of business....

Anyone have any other stores or websites they love?  Or hate?  Please share!

I too was very sad when The Rag Shop closed.  The Joann's closest to me (still about 25 miles) is not one of their better ones.  The distance I have to travel to find a store with great fabrics is insane - and there are very few bargains.

I am a sewer and I truly enjoy it.  So when I'm making slipcovers, recovering chairs or making drapes or curtains, I really want to touch the fabric and feel the hand of it.  So I've never gotten used to ordering fabric on line.

My other crafting stuff, well I just go where the best prices and selections can be found.

AC Moore is also my fav, but too far.  Michael's is great in a pinch and I can get there in under 20 minutes.  They aren't really much of a bargain anymore but the sales are decent.

A few online places I've had great success with are:

Save-on-Crafts

Creative For Less

Artbeads

None of them makes it totally easy to return, but it's not impossible either.

I've noticed lately that Walmart is stepping up it's craft department, but I'm sure that is totally dependent upon store location.

I'm crafty by nature, and with girls scouts and school projects I collected quite a "craft closet."

OMG, I forgot all about Artbead, I used to order from them all the time!

Do you have a link for "Creative For Less"  I googled, and couldn't find it.  Thanks!

That's because my fingers went insane.  It's actually CREATE for less.  And you can find it here

If you check in enough you may find a "weekly special" that is exactly what you need AND for a great price.

LadyC... I'm on the lookout for lime green thread. Just one, maybe 2. You know anywhere?

Lime green?  Wow, good luck.  You might do best looking in quilting supply stores, or at the very least, the quilter's department in JoAnn's.  If you can't find it, I'll pick Mom's brain, she quilts, so she uses all sorts of odd colored threads.

Find if there is a knitting circle through your church or town.  I've swapped instructions that way.  Someone may have some left over.
