the only thing that comes to mind right now (im sure ill think of more later) is the time i took a greyhound home for the holidays. i had just moved about 10 hours(by car) from home and decided i wasnt going to trust my bucket-o-rust car for the trip back but i was determined to get home for christmas. so i purchased the bus ticket thinking how bad could it be? and ....i was determined! so i remember taking an afternoon bus and it stopping at  i swear every single small town (POPULATION =12) town for the first 4 hours! i was thinking after we got onto the highway i could sit back and sleep untill our first of two stops. well that went well until we made another pickup and the bus driver at like 1am announced the towns name over the loud speaker ...as hed been doing all along....well when it 1am and there are children on the bus people tend to be sleeping and after the informative announcement they woke up screaming. that was the first part of the nightmare. the second is having to make a pit stop because of another route/bus breaking down or something. so more announcements and waiting even longer to switch busses because at this point our schedule was thrown way off. so finally for the last stretch of trip i was worn thin and tired. thinking i was only going to endure only a few more hours at best i held my chin up and tried to sleep. well someone used the restroom and it didnt flush so well so there was this TERRIBLE odor. someone had the brilliant idea to spray collogne. now it really did smell like toliet water on the bus...for the rest of the trip. i buried my nose in my shirt praying i didnt gag and ralph. after all that the 10 hour car trip turned out to be 16 hours of nightmare. all in all i had a wonderful visit with my family and i think i was drugged or i just blocked out my return trip becasue i cant remember it.

I can only imagine that smell.... Ugh. I understand the stopping at every station though. We took Amtrak once and it stopped ALL THE TIME. Drove me crazy.

Re: Worst Travel Nightmare

I've had a few things happen, and its kinda hard to decide which one to talk about! I think that the most serious thing that happened was while my father and I were in Cairo, Egypt. See, to understand this story, you have to understand Cairo. First off, everyone is poor. So the cars that they drive are all old and beaten down. Second, the traffic is TERRIBLE. Cars weave in and out, its always bumper to bumper... Basically walking out in the road is a hazard. Finally, the police are on every street corner with shotguns and machine guns. Now that you understand the setting, I can proceed.

It was late at night. We were taking a taxi from one side of the city back to our hotel in downtown. He was such a nice guy, laughing and telling us jokes the entire ride. He seemed really amused that my father and I were both named David, since Egyptians don't really name their sons after themselves. He was always "One David... You David.... TWO DAVID!!! :D" He was such a happy man........

So we get to the hotel. Traffic is as bad as ever. The man jumps out of the cab to open our doors, since he knows when its save. However, my father didn't wait. Now, my father is a big man, 6' 5", so he has to swing the door all the way open in order to get out. So he swings his door all the way open. And hits a Lexus. The only nice car I've seen in Egypt. The man slams on his breaks, jumps out, and starts yelling. He's talking in Arabic, and yelling at the taxi driver. The taxi driver starts yelling at us.

The taxi door was hanging on by a thread... You couldn't even shut the door. Thats how hard it hit. The guy in the Lexus never saw the 2 inch dent in his door. Had he, we might have been arrested. So, everyone is yelling, horns are going crazy since we are holding up traffic, everyone is upset, and I'm scared to death, thinking we are going to have to go to police HQ.

How did this end? Well, we threw money at the taxi driver and ran like he11. We walked around for an hour before going back. No idea if the poor taxi driver had to give tons of money to Lexus guy. No idea how he got his door closed. And no idea if Lexus guy ever noticed the huge dent. If I had to guess, either taxi guy payed him off, or they both had to drive to the police HQ. All I know is we didn't get arrested. Yay. :D

I'll have to share more from that trip... Dad also broke a movie theater seat, almost got arrested in the Paris airport, lost tickets, running out of money, losing credit cards... Was an interesting trip.

I just got back from a trip. There was a couch in the hotel room and my boyfriend and I were moving it so we could watch TV. When I pulled on the couch he pushed too hard and my big toenail got ripped off!!! Ouch!!!!

I haven't had much bad luck on a trip that I can remember. maybe the good memories just make the bad less memorable. I was stuck at the airport for a 12 hour delay. Long story short, we decided to take "Sky Bus" an airline that sold fares for about $30 a trip, but really was like flying in a bus. The airline only lasted about a year before closing their doors for good.

In my case, just getting stuck in Amsterdam on our way home, when getting back home was absolutely URGENT. It was extremely difficult to negociate some days off with my boss to go on holiday, but it turned to nightmare when I had to explain him why I couldn't be back at work the due day...
