Guitars.
I know there are other players on GUG, so tell us about your equiptment. My two main guitars besides my super off brand 80's strat are my Mitchell twelve string and my Takamine G series cedar top dreadnaught. Both on the lower end of the price spectrum, But they can hold their own against higher priced instruments.I will soon join the ranks of higher end instrument owners, when I add this sexy beast to my collection. The Fender American Special Mahogany HSS Stratocaster.

Here is the sexy beast I was talking about, don't know why it didn't post.

Re: Guitars.

I'm 47 and have been playing since high school but all those years may not indicate an expected skill level.  Haha!  I'm kinda of a gearhead, guitar and amplifier technician.  If you ever Googled for help on a Kahler or Floyd Rose floating bridge system, you might have hit one of the pages I wrote and maintained:
Kahler Instructions      -      Floyd Rose Instructions

My main guitar is a 2002 custom all-mahogany Carvin DC145 with Bill/Becky Lawrence pickups and original Floyd Rose:

Backup guitar is a 1980 Carvin CM140 I had made soon after high school.  It was later retrofitted with the Kahler:

This is my Taylor 414mace:

My bass (actually my son's) is a Fender USA Jazz 4-banger with DiMarzios:

Re: Guitars.

i have a few acoustics, a Ramirez nylon string, a low end steel string for writing, an ibanez 7 string.  this is a 1944 0-18 martin.

i have several amps but heres a couple cool heads.  a Soldano 50 Hotrod plus(signed by Mike Soldano), a Johnson Millennium all digital head, and a Line 6 Flextone II (its got so much headroom it can peel the paint off walls.)

i prefer 4X12 cabs but i use a custom 2X12 sometimes.  this 4X12 is wired up for both mono and stereo operation via a slide switch in back and can be run at 4 ohms.  its loaded with three standard 75 watt celestian speakers and a single 35 watt celestian for mic-ing purposes.

as for electric guitars i restring all my guitars with GHS Boomers or DR hand wound 10 gauge strings.  i hate dead strings so i change strings often.  i have most guitars gutted and and hotrodded with custom pickups, volume, and tone pots.  also i like to refloat my floyds and strobe tune for intonation.   these are some 6 string guitars i have.

Washburn D3 -- signed by Rex Brown and Dimebag Darrel of Pantera

Jackson Randy Rhoads

Gibson Flying V

Gibson Les Paul

Ibanez Steve Vai Jem

some years back i got a hold of a ESP guitar and ive been hooked on their 7 strings.  they make really durable guitars that play better every year.  i have this one and one in a grey finish.  one has active pick ups for death metal and the other with passive pickups for a more well rounded sound.

ESP MH307 (my grey one is signed by both Dino Cazares and Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory)

Re: Guitars.

The guitar player (and still a good friend of mine, Brian) in my last band has that same exact green guitar, signed by Dimebag. Another buddy of ours, Chad Lee is a photographer for all those bands, so he hooks things up, gets Brian up on stage during shows to play songs with them, party on the busses and backstage, etc. I've played that guitar though, it's nice.

Re: Guitars.

yah that guitar has a really huge sound.  there's so much wood it sounds like a guitar part that's been multi-tracked.  i especially like the V taper neck at the headstock that fades to a U as it approaches the body.  the Dean MLs had a tendency to nose dive when not playing, Washburn did a great job at balancing things out.

yup its a really great lifestyle.

Re: Guitars.

It did sound good when I played it.  I don't know much about guitars though, I was the singer, but I can play a little. I tend to stick to acoustic these days, playing more Blind Melon type stuff. I def did have some wild times back when I was actively playing in bands.

Re: Guitars.

*sigh* i have been playing since i was a kid so somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-14 years, all for hobby no desire to play in groups, but sadly im the broke kind of guitar player=(. The only good name guitar i had was a 67 fender jazzmaster that was stolen from me. so i buy the cheap stuff, I got Epi's les paul and a dreadnaught, not top of the line but they definately get the job done.

Re: Guitars.

Man.. a 67 Jazzmaster.  Stolen.  I could cry.    Didn't Curt Cobain have an old Jazzmaster?   At the Rock and Roll museum above the Gibson semi-hollowbody guitar factory in Memphis they have a display that contains the very Jazzmaster that was used in Presley's studio recording of "Suspicious Minds".
