So far, the happiest day has to be when I met my Sweetness. ( I don't have any children yet to compare a happier day to). Although Sweetness and I have had our ups and downs, I wouldn't change meeting him for the world. As a matter of fact in 10 days we make 2 years......not quite a golden anniversary, but it's a start and boy was it already a journey!

I have many happy moments, but I'll give the most recent one... Last night... my fiance and I are in the bedroom, and we're both kneeling down on the floor next to the bed, praying.   He's talking out loud and I'm listening to him as he asks God for everything to go well today on his new job.  (He recently transferred into a new position within the same company, where he doesn't have to travel anymore but he had to take a pay-cut because less hours.)  Anyway, he's praying, and I'm listening to him, and then, for the first time in 3 years, he starts thanking God for me and for all the strength I've given him. Smile

Easy one!  Birth of my kid!

We did all the right stuff, read all the books, we were ready.  I picked the best hospital in the area for babies.  Bag was packed, we were well rehearsed - could be any time now.  One day, my beeper went off just as I was pulling into the garage from an afternoon bike ride.  It was my wife.  The time had come.  We were calm and cool but excited.  Got to the hospital at around 6pm.  Checked in just fine, no surprises, I knew the deal.  Calm, prepared. In charge of the situation like I usually am.

They already had us set up in our own private "birthing suite".  It was more like a comfortable 5-star hotel room except it had an attached seperate room behind a partition loaded with equipment for when the time came.  Epidural in soon after arrival, monitors hooked up to track contractions and vitals.  My wife's OB-GYN came in every so often to check her progress.  She reassured us each time she came in.  My job was was to keep my wife distracted and entertained, tell her how everything was going to be just fine, and give her cracked ice.

10 hours later, we're both tired, no baby and holding at 7cm.  At the 5am doctor check, she tells us that it doesn't look like there will be any more dialation and that the baby will probably go into distress if she doesn't take it now.

My blood ran cold.  Emergency C-section.  This I wasn't prepared for. I don't remember putting them on but I suddenly found myself in scrubs sitting behind a barrier sheet next to my wife's head with my hand on her face reassuring her.  They couldn't put her under because of the epidural.  I was told to not to peek around at the surgery.  I felt frightened and helpless and I do not like that feeling at all.  I can handle frightened head on, but I do not like being helpless at all.  My focus was on my wife.

A few minutes later, I heard a baby crying and I knew it was ours.  The doc cleaned him up and let me hold him. My wife was in another world because of the increased epidural dosage they pumped into her spine.  I put the prepared ID bracelets on his hand and foot, signed them, and the doc took our baby and put him in the monitoring room.  They were still closing my wife's c-section and I was led out into the hall where the glass window was.

I remember standing there being dazed, worried about my wife while staring at my new baby's little red, wrinkled fingers.  After about 15 minutes, the doc came up behind me, put her hand on my arm and said eveything is OK and my wife is in recovery and I could see her in 15 minutes.

I thanked her, she left and I slid down the wall overcome with emotion, tears in my eyes, so very relieved that everything was going to be good.

Right there was the happiest moment of my life.  The pinnacle, without a doubt.
