I have two friends of which I can not view their friend lists

At first I thought this was a glitch. What happened is a friend of mine described some drama going on in her real life regarding people on her facebook friend list friending her ex husband (whom she has an order of protection against). The friend of hers that did this is also a coworker so given that she has an order of protection against her ex husband she asked this coworker to defriend him. Being the nosy girl that I am, I decided to have a look at her friend list to see who the offending adder of the ex husband was. My friend's friend list was visible on her profile page with six or so friends being shown. I clicked "see all" to see the total list and it only would pull up the mutual friends between her and I. Again, I thought this was a glitch but I was curious. So, I continued to try this approach over the next few days. It happened the same every time, only mutual friends being displayed.

I wasn't convinced that this wasn't a glitch but then I had an idea to test it out. After I had tried several of my own friends and was able to successfully view their entire friend list I decided to try her boyfriends list. He is on my friend list as well, so I navigated to his page and tried to view his entire friend list. Same thing! I could only view his mutual friends.

This tells me that he (or she) knows some sort of trick to set it up where only mutual friends are displayed when clicking see all to view a friends list. Does anyone have an idea how this might be achieved?

Man.. I had a hard time following that.. But, I think that if they hide their friends then you would only be able to see mutual friends?

Re: I have two friends of which I can not view their friend ...

I was afraid it was unclear. Let me see if I can break it down. Let's call my friend Tina. Tina is on my friends list on FaceBook. Tina just went through a rough divorce to her ex husband, we'll call him Bad Guy. Now she is dating a new fellow we'll call Good Guy. Tina called me to explain that a coworker of her's, we'll call Bad Coworker, had added Bad Guy to her friends list. Given that Tina has an order of protection against Bad Guy she didn't want Bad Coworker to be talking to Bad Guy...kind of for her own safety. She asked Bad Coworker to remove Bad Guy from her friend's list. Well, Bad Coworker got very angry and refused to do so.

I was curious who exactly this coworker was so I headed over to Tina's profile to browse her friends list. When I clicked "see all" on Tina's list only the mutual friends between us would show. I thought this was a glitch and continued to try over the next few days to see if the glitch would work itself out. It did not.

Then, I headed over to Good Guy's profile to see if his friend list would only pull up mutual friends when I clicked "see all". The same held true. I could not view his entire friend list. Only mutual friends between Good Guy and I pulled up. My guess is that being that Good Guy and Tina are a couple, one of them knows a trick to make this possible and has shared it with the other.

I also tested this on my other friends and was successfully able to view their entire friends list, not just mutual friends between us.

I hope that made more sense.

I noticed the same thing myself yesterday. I accepted a friend who I suspected might be a fake profile, not too sure. Anyway, I am now friends with this person and wanted to check out his friends. I can see the random 9 on his page but when I click "see all" only the mutual friends show up. I thought it was a glitch also, but I guess not, maybe there is a way now to hide your friends from your friends (aside from the mutuals and the random 9 on the page)

There certainly is. I am glad someone else noticed it. I was beginning to think I was nuts. I can't figure out how it is done though.

I don't know how they are doing it. I tried it again today to see if it is still happening. I went to my friends profile, saw his 6 random friends, clicked on see all and the box pops up with only a tab for mutual friends and only the mutual friends showing. I clicked on another person on my friend list who is not really a friend in real life, she has over a thousand friends. The same thing happened with her too! I checked privacy settings and can't figure out what they are doing.

They are not "doing" anything to hide their friends. Right now on facebook you can only hide your friends from non-friends.

This should work to solve your problem - right click on the "view all" link and open it in a new tab. All friends will show that way - it worked for me a few times.

Very weird.. On profiles that DO show me all their friends, I can right click, open in new tab and see all their friends just as I could without opening a new tab. On the ones that are only showing mutual friends  I right click on "see all" and click open in new tab, it  will just go to my home page. I tried clicking on the total number of friends too and still the same, showing only mutual friends, and if I try to view it in a new tab or window it just goes to my home page. Maybe they aren't "doing" anything, I guess it could just be a glitch thats happening on some profiles, but its very strange!

No, there IS something going on here. My wife and I tested this out. We both have our "show friend list to everyone" UNCHECKED...and we both can still see each other's full friend list and mutual friend list. So the theory that unchecking "show friend list to everyone" will only show a mutual friend's list when visiting that friend...is NOT true. These people either know a techie trick to selectively hide their friends lists from other friends or it IS a glitch.

go to accounts. privacy settings. friends, tags and connections. set "friends" to custom and then "only me". this will hide your friends list and will only show friends who are mutual friends.

People can hide their friendslist from non-friends but non-friends can still see if there are mutual friends.

You cannot hide your friendslist from people that are on your friendslist. This is the way it is right now on facebook.
