wireless? need help!!! PLEASE

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but I really have no clue, so I am throwing this out there...
I have a hp laptop. This is the only computer in my house. I don't get any feeds for wireless internet from my house, so I ordered Verizon DSL. The only problem is, I want to go wireless in my house. The DSL is hooked up in the front room where the phone jack is, but thats not where my work station is. Is there anyway I can hook up a wireless router to the DSL modem for only one computer? or to go wireless in the house, do you need more than one computer?
any and all imput would be greatly appreciated!! thank you!!!!

ohkay... firstly, laptops are laptops and workstations are workstations. The terms aren't interchangeable. Not to nitpick, but I'm feeling a touch OCD.... secondly; yes you can hook up a wireless router to just one computer, but likely you'll have to enable the wireless by initially accessing the router on one of it's ether ports.

Re: wireless? need help!!! PLEASE

most wireless routers have 4 "local" Ethernet (wired) ports (LAN), along with there wifi (wireless) access (WLAN. Along with this they have a 5th Ethernet (wired) port that is connecting to a modem (this is your WAN port). In order to do initial configuration of the router you will most likely have to plug your laptop into the router on one of it's LAN ports and enable the wifi bt following whatever instructions came with the router. Once you have the wifi enabled and configured, you should be able to connect to the router, and from there the internet, wirelessly. You might want to look at getting a Wireless Access Point instead, if you don't already have the router.

I bought a re-furbished netgrear wireless router. so there were no instructions. I tried to go online and register it, but my computer wouldn't get passed the first part. I think b/c my comp has a firewall, and netgear has a firewall? does that sound familar at all?

Just go to office depot or best buy and get a wireless router. The salesperson there will explain how to hook it up and it will come with instructions too. Don't worry, if I can do it you can do it...peace
