How to disable iCloud GPS Tracking on your iPhone

Update: This page and the video below show images and steps specific to iOS 6 however the steps are basically the same on iOS 7, IOS8 and iOS 9

You can prevent being tracked on an iPhone via iCloud & Find My iPhone several ways - all by various methods of disabling or removing the Find My iPhone service on your phone.

Method 1: Disable the location services
Disabling the location services on your iPhone will prevent anyone from tracking you using the Find My iPhone service.  You can either disable all location services for all apps or just for the Find My iPhone service.  To access the location services settings, tap the settings icon, tap "Privacy", then tap "Location Services".  You can either disable all location services by tapping the on/off switch at the top or scroll down to Find My iPhone, tap it, and then tap the on/off switch for "Find My iPhone"

Method 2: Disable the Find My iPhone Service
You can completely disable Find My iPhone by tapping Settings, then iCloud, then tap the on/off switch for Find My iPhone.  You can also delete the iCloud account from the phone by tapping DELETE at the bottom of the screen but be aware this will remove all iCloud services from your iPhone.

Method 3: Change your iCloud/Find My iPhone/AppleID password
If you prefer to leave Find My iPhone functional to track it should it become lost or stolen, but don't want someone else to track you, just change your iCloud/Find My iPhone password.  To change your iCloud/Apple ID password, log in to, select Manage your account, click Password and Security, then in the center of the screen, click "Change Password".  You will then have to enter your new password in your iPhone iCloud settings - be sure that you DON'T give the new password to your stalker!

Any of the methods above, or all combined will help prevent someone from tracking your location on your iPhone.

Hey if i reset my iphone, do I lose everything in my phone and GPS tracing??? Thanks for helping !!

When you reset or restore your iphone "as a new device", all settings, including iCloud which is used for tracking, are removed. If you reset or restore "from a backup", the settings from the backup are restored. If it was setup for icloud and tracking, then those settings will still be there.

I have YET to see any real way to stop top authorities from tracking my iphone!!! DON'T BE FOOLED :-(

Nobody is suggesting that you can prevent your mobile carrier and by extension, the police, FBI, CIA, or MI5 from locating you through your phone. The context of this, and 100 other pages at this website about tracking is iCloud and Find My iPhone tracking.

How often do you get into such trouble that the authorities need to track you down via location. Sounds like we all may need them to keep tracking you :-)

Hi I would like to help friends and family to install the right programs or apps on their phones in case it gets lost or stolen. There are amazing apps that works on most phones like andoidlost. I am not sure if this will work on i phones. Is there anyway that phones can be traced on the Imei number. If it can be blocked, I am sure there is a way to trace it.

See this page/watch the video to see how to setup Find My iPhone to track an iPhone: Track an iphone.
The service provider (AT&T, Verizon, etc) have the technical ability to track a phone but they will not do it on request, they usually only do it for law enforcement in emergency situations. Find My iPhone is the best/easiest/free option to locate an iPhone.

I turned off the "find my iPhone" app and for some reason it disabled my phone. I couldn't send or receive texts from my family. I had to call AT&T to have them enable my phone again. The security option that was chosen was "erase", is it a default to automatically shut my phone off?

Thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds like you tracked your phone and selected the 'erase' option. This is not the default and in fact takes a few extra clicks where it says "ERASE THIS PHONE". However when you do this, it can be easily restored by plugging it in to your iTunes or just entering your iCloud ID and restoring from iCloud if you had previously enabled iCloud backups.

How do i prove or show authorities i have been illegally tracked? I have purchased a new iPhone tuned off location services and changed my iCloud acct passwords? Please help
