Idea for all of us who have a "Fakespace"!

So...I've noticed that most of us who built our friendslist over the GUG have more or less the same friends.

Some of our more attentive targets might notice that and start wondering...so, what about we all decide together that we went to the same school, or college, or whatever to simulate like we all know each other from there. I realize we're all from different states, but hey, who didn't move after graduating from high school?? ;-)

Let me know if you like the idea. Then, we could add the school or whatever to our myspace.

smart mom you always have a great answer, yes I think you had posted something like this before and I did change my town to something funny instead of a real town.  And if everyone keeps their profiles private most of the time, no one can see your friends friends.  Sometimes I open mine up just for a day to try to grab more friends from my area.  Have a great weekend all :) !

Yes, hiding your location is a good idea. Another one would be to add random people from myspace who aren't targets just to build your friend list to throw targets off. My fakespace has over 100 friends, most are random people. I log on, browse whoever is "online now" and request people in my age group and area. I usually leave a "thanks for the add" comment which usually gets me a response which looks good when target's come to my page.

I don't add all the GUG requests I get because I'm worried about us all having the same friends. I usually only add the ones who look like they could be my real friends and are in my age group. So, sorry if I haven't added some of you! I understand what's it's like at the very beginning when we are all trying to build our fakespace, but now that I have most of my targets right where I want them, I am being super selective.

I would think that a group of people having a similiar group of friends would only solidify the "real" factor. I mean, most friends on myspace has a similiar friends list, because they are all friends.

thanks for all your input guys!!

well it does solidify the factor, in some way.but you see, at real people's pages you would find out why and how they know each other, like they went to the same high school and have it on their page. none of us has any info that would hint to from where we know each other. i know my target might get suspicious.

what has worked very well for me is to create as much reality on my fake as possible. so once i selected the city & state of choice, i googled that city in search of the hottest & hippest night life, things to do, and events. then created a calendar and added it to my page. then added a few local bands from that city and surrounding area. now, every time there is an upcoming event, page gets updated and it looks even more convincing.

you can even add the new current weather feature for that particular town.

a few more ideas that will work: pick a town that has a chamber of commerce myspace page, a library that has a myspace page, a few trendy hair salons, as well as surf shops. so when you search on a random name in that area with the myspace search functions, also narrow it by zip. that way, if your jane/john doe come up also, several others in that zip code radius come up. just start sending one friend request after the other. and the key is to be active on those public business myspace pages with comments and such (the bars, surfshops, boutiques, etc.). wella!

Re: Idea for all of us who have a "Fakespace"!

Hmmmm that's a good idea (keeping your fakespace private to garner curiosity).  It irks me to keep my real page private (I have nothing on it to hide) but I keep it private b/c of court stuff.  LOL I was leaving my fakespace open so I could live my alter ego!  Hasn't happened though...too much other stuff going on and I can't get it updated!!!!!!!!

ROTFL maybe some of us should get together and create a fake band page!

Seriously, I am all for organizing our fakespaces...we do need consistency w/friends, schools, etc.  At one time I was going to close one of my fakespaces but I think I will keep both open and maintain two sets of friends in separate regions.  So don't be upset if I delete someone's fake from one page b/c I'll leave it on the other.

Re: Idea for all of us who have a "Fakespace"!

Something like this would be a good idea, I have tried not adding every single fake profile, that way mine doesnt have the entire group, and I have noticed a couple of more astute people have invented reasons for their variety aka a musician, work travels etc.  You are correct that a smart person who may be paranoid anyway (as most myspace people are now days) will pick up on this if they get curious about their new fake space friend.  My first target dropped me within a week, and I had only visited their profile once, and the only comment had given them was ty for the add.  Not only that, a business profile space we shared as a friend dropped me.  So yes a comman thread would be good.  I have even thought for the more serious that mutual assisting by having another profile in the same city as someone would be good.  Also in the beginning some of us had gotten together and decided to be cousins, best friends, sisters, etc.
