Ideas for the Holidays

I love the Holidays and every year for christmas we like to go on a family vacation.  This year is going to be extra special. My grandfather is battling lung cancer and has decided on not going on with any treatment because he is up there in age and he feels that treatment would take him from us faster.  So far he is doing well. Growing up with my grandpa he played in a "Orquesta de Salsa".  His instrument of choice are the Timbales.  I remember when i was little he would play the Timbales on the front porch and have all the little ones out there dancing to his beats.  He has definitly instilled the true meaning of our culture through music.  So now let me get to the good part.  I have cousins in puerto rico that play in a salsa group and they want my grandfather to perform with them at a family gathering we are having on  christmas eve.  This morning i had coffee with my "tata" and i brought up the idea to him and he was overwhelemed by the request and started to cry out of happiness. I love spending the holidays with my family and i know all of you have good memories to share.  I thought i would share this one with you all because he is such an inspiration to me.

That's absolutely wonderful for you and your family!  It's always great to see a loved one so happy, in this case your grandpa, and I'm thrilled for you and your family!

Re: Ideas for the Holidays

So our tradition for thanksgiving is getting all of our friends together the day after thanksgiving for friends only dinner, since most of us spend Thanksgiving Day with the family… The catch to it is that everyone brings their left-overs! Last year we had so many different kinds of dishes people actually had to take some home. It’s a really fun way to get together with old pals and catch up on things. So, I wanted to send out invites to remind everyone about the dinner. I went to target & walmart and didn’t find anything… Do they not make thanksgiving cards? I searched and searched and nothing. I did find some blank orange cards and thought I could work with them and add pictures in the front since it was soo plain. But as soon as we got to the checkout I come to find out each pack of 5 is $4.99 that was way too much being that they were simple orange cards… So last night I stopped by Michaels Arts & crafts and although they also didn’t have what I was looking for I did find something similar! And for a fraction of the price!! I found a 6-pack of cards for ONE dollar!! I bought ribbon & waaa laaa!! The invites came out soo cute!! I was soo excited I had to share…

That's such a great idea and what a great memory that is for your family :)

There are so many traditions we have as a family.  But I really love cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas with all my aunts and cousins.  It's fun and makes for great memories.  And MMmmmMMmm homemade tamales :p
