Metallica Death Magnetic (Album review)

Uh, I mean MP3 review. Welcome metalheads. I would like to introduce you to the new Metallica cd. I know, Metallica is washed up and no longer plays metal right? Wrong! Apparently Rick Rubin decided to tell Metallica exactly what they've been doing wrong the last few cds. It worked. Think of this album as the missing link between And Justice For All and The Black Album. You can see where they cam from and where they are headed. Luckily for us they appear headed back to where they came from. The music is pretty impresive, more metal than the last few and heavy like you need. Vocals are a little weak but Hetfield id getting older. Over all this is a really good cd. I didn't want to believe either but after I listened to it I was shocked at how much I liked it. Now, it's not perfect. There a a couple weak tracks but over all it's a keeper. Still skeptical? Head over to my GuG profile and listen to the whole cd. I hate the cover art but I don't listen to cover art so I'm going to let that one slide for now. Metallica is back!

Re: Metallica Death Magnetic (Album review)

I went out and bought this today. Circuit City had it for $8.99 today and tomorrow. For under ten bucks, I won't even steal (download) it!

Glad to hear it got a good review from you, P, cause I know you've been off Metallica for a while. I'll be listening while I'm driving around for work tomorrow.

Re: Metallica Death Magnetic (Album review)

I downloaded it (yes, Ulrich, I know) about a week ago. While I feel the statement "old Metallica is back", which I've read/heard from various people, is an extreme exaggeration, I do feel Death Magnetic is a great improvement from St. Anger. I find myself really digging some parts of the music, though repetitive at times. And I definitely agree with you about James. A lot of times, the vocals killed it for me. But you're right, he is getting older. As one of my fellow friends said, this album is like a sign of hope that they are going back to where they once were. To be honest with you, though, I won't ever expect "old Metallica" come back, but I certainly appreciate and love that they're still jamming.

Yeah saying they are back is a bit of an exaggeration but this is a step in the right direction. If their next album continues in this direction we could get a cd of all great songs instead of some good songs. They never will be the Old Metallica as no band seems capable of regaining their old sound. Judas Priest's new cd sucks big time. The one before that was flat out brutal. Megadeth's new stuff is nothing xompared to their old stuff. That's just the way of the world. I too appreciate that they at least are trying.

funny you mention megadeth.  Dave mustaine gets flac for having such a strong personality, but when i was young a buddy and i worked at a mc donalds in kona.  well in walks Dave, up to my friends register.  we were both metal heads and quite aw strucken.  my friend didnt have anything cool for Dave to sign but w/o missing a beat Mustaine took his shirt off and signed that.  Mustaine will always be cool in my book.

as  for metallica, i think newsted brought a lot to the table as far as energy goes.  when hed mosh in circles by himself while the crowd chanted die! die! to creeping death.  that was tight.

not realling feeling the whole crabwalk.

If you have a sec, go to Megadeth's MySpace and look for a blog about a guitar lesson he gave a contest winner. I guess the kid's Father was so stoked with how generous Dave Mustaine was with the whole experience, that he wrote a letter To Megadeth and then they posted it as a blog so everyone could check it out.

Like mentioned above, I didn't think the last couple Megadeth albums were up to par.

I listened to "Death Magnetic" today, and I thought it was pretty good. I'll have to hear it a couple more times to know/judge the lyrics, but the music was channeling old school, like "Justice" and previous. Hard core stuff, just the way The Devil likes it. In a couple instances I was reminded of Slayer, which maybe isn't a surprise since Rick Rubin was executive producer on the last two Slayer albums.

Slayer had lost me for a while, then I "sampled" some songs online that I hadn't heard before. I thought they were awesome so I went out and bought "God Hates Us All". My fav by them. The album after that wasn't as good, but did sound like some older stuff.
