Help...Music for the wedding reception!

Help. I am trying to get three hours worth of songs on a "do-it-yourself" wedding play list. I can't think of a lot right now. I am into older stuff like Nat King Cole/Frank Sinatra, he is into everything from Gun's N' Roses to Boys 2 Men...Any song suggestions?

Just as an example of some of the songs that are a must…I am walking down to The Wedding Song by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Our Recessional is going to be to the song "Bittersweet Symphony". Our song is “Dream a Little Dream” by the Mama’s and the Papas.

What are some great love songs I can add to the reception CD?

ask and ye shall receive. top wedding reception songs. this site has it ALL, from procession music to father/daughter dance music, to garter belt removal music, prelude, recessional, reception, interlude, first dance, and more!

also, you may want to PM our member Dave Smooth, as he is a pro spinner and does many gigs & affairs. click on his GuG profile to get to his myspace profile.

you must be so excited. what a joyous time in your life!

I have a few of those and musicians in my life.  They are great for music reference.

My friend walked down the aisle to Etta James-At Last.  And yes, I suggested it lol

I love Etta to begin with though :)

Unfortunately, my background does not bode well for wedding affairs, unless you are a couple of ravers who just happen to be getting married.    I play house.

i love your song choices! i am excited for you. boys to men had some good ones. there were a lot of great songs around that time. i wish my hubby was here. hed be able to make some great selections. hes really good at stuff like that. he picked out alot of our wedding songs. guns n roses had november rain. that was like their bad boy balled but the video is sad so, me personally, i wouldnt be able to use that one.

One very nice song is KC and JoJo's All My Life. That's a must add if you're putting Boys To Men in your playlist.

After-wedding party?  PARTY!!  Open bar?  Lighted dance floor?  You want people to dance.  The best ones I've been to, the DJ plays music people can actually groove and bounce to.  I like GnR too but I don't think there will be many dancing to "Welcome to the Jungle".

Here's my input... and don't pull this stuff out too early but here are some suggestions for an hour into it when the drinkers get lit:

Popular disco from the 70's:

KC and the Sunshine Band (you know the ones - there are 3)
Chic (Le Freak, Good Times, et al)
Donna Summer (Hot Stuff, et al)
Bee Gees (3 or 4 songs from the Saturday Night Fever sndtrk)
Patrice Rushen - Forget Me Nots (always gets 'em up, people ask what song IS that?)
Earth, Wind & Fire
Cheryl Lynn (Got To Be Real, et al)

And what I call "fun rap":

Will Smith from the 90's
MC Hammer (Can't Touch This)
Vanilla Ice (yes... Ice Ice baby)
Sir Mix-a-Lot (Baby Got Back)
etc..

Ya gotta have The Chicken Dance somewhere in there a few times too.

Get where I'm coming from?  You down with it?  Let's boogie!  haha!  :)

Interested in specific tunes, PM me.

*edit - forgot an important one.  When it starts getting wild put on Kenny Loggins' "Foot Loose"

Thank you all so much! I am going to use everything you suggested MIW. You totally get what I am going for! Beeeenine, I agree no wedding would be complete without Etta! I used the wedding site suggested by 2na, and things are definitely coming along. I am still looking for All My Life, but I have no doubt it will find a place on our mix.

Stevie, I am using yours for our party we will be hosting in a few weeks. My Grandma is performing the ceremony so we can’t have alcohol or dancing at THIS reception. We are going on a cruise of SF Bay with the family instead. In a few weeks, I will put your suggestions to good use when all my friends come to celebrate!
