Re: New tattoo is scabbing
Tattoos should never be retouched until at least 30 days after you got it. It takes a long time for the body to heal itself after being tattooed.

It is normal for any tattoos to scab if you happen to have color bleed out your artist will retouch them also not uncommen. My foot tat lost a little bit of color it was retouched and looks perfecr also using the Aquaphor is very important as is also not picking off the scabs.

At least your retouch ended up perfect....My retouch did the same thing as my original scabbed and allllllllll the color came off. And that was keeping it moist so it wouldn't scab. I am so totally done with getting the tat on my foot.

Re: New tattoo is scabbing
I got a tattoo back in July. It has fully healed seeing how it's been 3 months. I'm aware of all the healing and possibility of scabs, etc. But I recently got a zit on the tattoo. Well, I'm a picker. I picked at the zit and it scabbed over. Then I picked at the scab and noticed it was very black as if the ink was coming out. It doesn't look like the image is distorted at all so it's not like a LOT of ink came out. I'm just wondering if at this stage - fully healed - should I be concerned about future "blemishes" that might scab over the tattoo.

new tattoo scabbing
Well, really old post, but there's a few comments in here that apply to me. I got my first tattoo on my lower ribcage/side/hip/love handles area, and it's bout 9-10 inches long. There's one part in the middle, and the tips, where it's not scabbing, but the rest of it is. I'm just treating it like a normal ouchie, minus the Neosporin & band-aids, hehe. Just puttin' a warm, wet washcloth on it to get the scabs to loosen and come off on their own, 'because pickin' scabs is just bad in general, but especially on a tattoo. I'm just goin' w/ it for now, seein' what happens, really.

I think it's perhaps some issues with what you use on the skin ( the solvent )or if it's the sun

Re: New tattoo is scabbing
I got my first tattoo 3 days ago, and its scabbing, my friend, who has a lot of tattoos, said its scabbing nicely, but how long should it stay like this for? And how often should I moisturise it? I don't have any proper cream for it, is there anything I could use instead? Like sun lotion ar something? Something that you would keep around the house if you've never had tattoos?

Use Aquaphor or hand-moisturizer but don't use a lot of it. if you can afford a tattoo you can afford to buy some of that
