Re: New tattoo is scabbing
If it's scabbing lightly then that's normal - it's just the skin going "Argh, oh.. oh my... " but it should get over it within 2-3 weeks..? If you're really concerned, text/phone/visit your artist. He/She will know exactly what to do and what is okay and what is not. They're there to help you :)

New tattoo is scabbing
I got a tattoo about a week ago on my hand. I've been using A&D ointment and keeping it covered so it won't get dirty, but I noticed sometimes it looks moist like when you wash the dishes and leave your hands in the water a long time. Is it ok to cover it all the time and how long and how much ointment should I use. FIRST TATTOO REALLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE

A&D ointment on a tattoo
You should only use A&D ointment the first couple days, then switch to alight lotion. Also, do not bandage! Your tattoo needs to breathe and air out to properly heal. Wash it once or twice a day (like during showering) then give about 30 minutes to dry out before moisturizing. Reapply lotion every few hours to deal with any itching.

Your only supposed to cover it for a day and then let it air out so it can heal, I used antibactirial soap and aquaphor during the healing process and it worked really well

Re: New tattoo is scabbing
I have a foot tattoo. When I first got my tattoo the artist told me it might peel but won't scab. I used an unscented lotion and wore shoes that did not touch my tattoo. My tat never peeled or scabbed over. However, I just got three new tattoos (two during my honeymoon in June and the other one last Saturday). The one on my ankle scabbed in one corner but I did not lose any color. The one on my wrist scabbed and once again I lost no color. The tattoo I got last Saturday on my pinky is scabbing over really bad and thick. I am a little scared to peel it because I love the current color of it and I don't want it to fade.

Re: New tattoo is scabbing
you arent suppose to peel it. just let it happen naturally. and because its on your pinky the scabbing being worse could be because its a place that moves around a lot more
