If the Nokia N810 tablet and iPhone had a baby...

I LOVE my n810 wimax internet tablet... in fact, I love just about everything Nokia puts out (although I was not impressed with shoving a space bar to the far right with the n97.... wtf nokia?)

And although my tablet has Skype... I won't use it when I have a trusty cell phone...

So... evidently my n810 had an affair with the iPhone and got knocked up... the result???

The Nokia N900 tablet phone:

Sorry Apple, but your iPhone is going to look like a piece of junk if this thing performs the way it appears to. It's my internet tablet...... with my cell phone included.

Some of the specs:

5 mp camera with flash AND a slide cover for protection

linux based OS maemo 5

wifi connectivity

cellular connectivity

32 GB internal storage

up to 1 GB application memory

slide out qwerty keyboard

microSD memory slot

3.5 inch touchscreen with 800x480 resolution

integrated GPS

For a much fuller list of specs check out http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/specifications/

I haven't seen an official release date... but I've seen articles say October and November... I'm guessing November for the US.

And just for kicks... here's a list of side by side comparisons between the n900 and iphone HERE

And for a demonstration:

If it downloads music, installs apps, syncs addressbook/calendar, etc as smooth and easy as the iPhone, they'll have a winner!

EDIT: what, no compass?! FAIL!! JK

And unfortunately, no cases of exploding phones either!

It's already beat the iPhone in my eyes... but I have a STRONG hatred for touch screen keyboards... I like the slide out ones...

plus... expandable storage? 5mp camera? flash? not as oddly shaped? the fact that I don't have to ever step foot into the apple store? the fact I don't have to worry about losing an ear? I'm sold.

Okay, enough ragging on the iPhone... the iPhone is appealing to me as far as what it does and how well it does it... my gripe is more the hardware of the phone (and the fact that at&t will never be on my list of cell providers)... this n900 has the hardware I prefer, and the software is an upgraded version of my tablet which I already love... so I do believe this is the phone for me...

I just noticed this n900 also stuck the spacebar to the right... but it doesn't seem to be as annoyingly far as the n97 was... I think I could live with that since I get my slide out keyboard.

I have recently become obsessed with this phone. I hope that one day I can get this phone or the next generation. It just went on preorder in Germany and Italy. It's just amazing.

I'm actually a little bummed... when (because there is no 'if' when it comes to this) I get this phone, I don't know what I'm going to do with my n810... it makes my heart hurt to think Noki will be obsolete. *sobs*

In other Nokia news... they're coming out with a 3G netbook PC... the Nokia Booklet 3G or something like that... supposed to be a high-end netbook.

Less than three Nokia... less than three.

Netbooks don't really do it for me. If I want an internet experience on the road I can just use my phone. I'm very excited about the direction Nokia is going tough. It's good to see Linux being put to good use.

Re: If the Nokia N810 tablet and iPhone had a baby...

Nokia has been using the Maemo OS since 2005 on their 770 internet tablet... then on the 800 and 810... since the 900 is just another one of their internet tablets, it makes sense that they continue... the n900 is still an internet tablet, it's just been significantly improved and merged with cellular capabilities...

Although I do wish they used it for all of their smartphones...

But you'd think, since they basically market their internet tablets as a PC for your pocket, that their netbook would continue to be linux based, instead of windows.

I'm not a huge fan of netbooks (I need a full sized keyboard to keep me computer happy)... but maybe since they're progressing to computers, they'll continue and start making full sized laptops and so on... one can dream...

Although if I had to choose typing a long email on the go on either a netbook or a tiny phone, I'd definitely choose netbook... I don't care to really use phones for anything aside from leisure activities... just browsing the interwebs, yeah the phone would be my choice... I believe their netbook is being marketed as a business thing... kind of like the blackberry. Instead of trying to type out emails and correspond between coworkers, plan meetings and such all on a tiny phone, you can get a more basic phone for phone needs, and use the netbook for your more professional needs....

You totally have me salivating on my keyboard from that preview video. I've been debating on whether or not to get an iphone, but this phone....oh man.
